Priceline Hotel: 12/28-1/1 NYC

I need a 3 star hotel or better in one of these zones:

MSG

CPS

Chelsea

ESB

Hells

MTW

Soho

TS

My budget is $1000 out the door. I bid as high as $210 but to no avail. Do you think this is doable? If not Im just going to take the Doubletree in Jersey City and take the path in at $209/night.

I would bid up to your maximum budget and then take the Doubletree deal. It's worth trying (as it costs nothing to bid) but the chances of a hotel offering a deep discount for NYE when they can likely sell-out most of their rooms on their own at full price are low. Even if a hotel is a little behind in their bookings at the moment, they likely wouldn't discount too deeply 5 weeks ahead, instead hoping that business comes more inline with their expected demand for this high-occupancy date(s).

PS- keep in mind that as a result of Hurricane Sandy the PATH train from Jersey City is currently only running until 10pm. I'm not sure if the system will be 100% up and running on a full 24/7 schedule by NYE, and if not i would think it's likely they add more capacity at least for the nite of 12/31, but i can't say for certain.
