Priceline Hotel: Priceline 4* North Strip "Vicinity"??? Identification Help Please, Dec 14th-17th

Hello!

New member here ~_~ (read the inbox msg, and of course using HOTWIRE and PRICELINE links listed on the site)

I'm going to Vegas Dec 14th-17th and will be staying at the Trump Hotel. Non-Negotiable! Fabulous place. Right now HOTWIRE lists it as $87 per night $301 total after taxes and fees. However I'm wondering if I can bid for it on PRICELINE and get a better deal since the 4* Strip Vicinity North average on Priceline is only $86 and their taxes/fees in my experience are more reasonable than Hotwire. 5* Strip Vicinity North is averaging at $109 but of course it makes sense to bid on the 4* and start under $86 for a better deal assuming the Trump is the only hotel I would win.

So my question is what hotel if any is covered under the 4* category for Strip Vicinity North? Or is it that Priceline considers the Trump as a 4* AND 5* when bidding but lists it only as 5* in searches? I don't want to take a chance on getting an undesirable hotel but I truly can't figure out what else would be covered under North Strip Vicinity. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks everyone

Interesting logic you have. The only hotel reported by members for "Vicinity" is the 5* Trump. No 4*s reported.

I just had to double check, and indeed there is 4* bidding possible for "Vicinity". Since you are going to LV to gamble anyway, maybe you could gamble on that possibility? B) Other members would undoubtedly appreciate having the mystery solved. FYI, I'm a member, not anybody official here.

But seriously, if you want the 5* Trump you'd best bid at the 5* level up to the total Hotwire shows. And of course even at the 5* level you have to be prepared to accept any 5* within the zone map. Highly unlikely there is another 5* there, but ....

And if you aren't successful bidding, just slip over to the Hotwire deal.

The "average rates" shown on Priceline are best ignored. They don't seem to have any validity. But the whole issue of just what the 4* "Vicinity" can be is very interesting???

Welcome to BetterBidding!

As Romelle points out, you should ignore the average price shown by PRICELINE. Using your premise that the Trump is the only hotel (at the 4* or 5* level) in this zone, there shouldn't be any difference in the average price for a hotel at either star level. I'll take the stance that the average rate shown is flawed, but if you disagree and are going to use the average price shown by PRICELINE as a reason to bid 4* on in hopes of a lower price and an upgrade to the 5* level, then you also have to assume that there is another 4* hotel in the zone that you could win (since the average price shown changes whether you're looking at 4* or 5* hotels)

BOTTOMLINE: If you only want the Trump i would only bid 5* and not take any chances of an unexpected surprise of winning a different property.

Thanks for using the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board.

Ignoring the average rates from now on (thanks for the info I had no idea they didnt make much of a difference) but it would be great if this mystery was indeed solved one way or the other. From what I've read on this site and others Trump is the only hotel listed in the North Vicinity zone period 5* or otherwise but I'm not a gambler which is why I love Trump :P so I think its best I stick with Hotwire and not take any chances even if the chance is slim to none :) Thank you both!

I know of no other 4* or 5* hotels within this zone, but even so, if it were me i would stick to 5* bidding and not try for a 4*. I'd feel 'pretty good' bidding the 5* level and expecting the Trump, but if your trip would be ruined if you were to receive any other property, then HOTWIRE would give you a bit of increased confidence in the hotel before purchase.
