msv Posted November 21, 2012 Report Posted November 21, 2012 hi, i've been bidding the past few days on priceline with no luck. looking to get a 4* in MTE. i started @ $144 and re-bid all the way to $150 with no luck. any strategies you can suggest? thanks in advance!
AaronJB Posted November 21, 2012 Report Posted November 21, 2012 Welcome to Betterbidding. This is right in the middle of the point where rates start to slide lower in the latter half of the month (the first half of the month is one of the busier of the year.) On HOTWIRE, if you look up 12/14-17, there's a 4* in MTE for $230. If you look at 12/15-17, there's a 4* in MTE for $180. I think a 4* win for 12/15-17 around the $135-160 range in MTE may be possible, but for 12/14-17 altogether, a moderately higher price (170-195) may be required. HOTWIRE has a 4* for $171 in MTE when searching for 12/15-18; is there any way you could move your stay forward one day?Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
msv Posted November 21, 2012 Author Report Posted November 21, 2012 Hi Aaron, thanks for your reply & info; unfortunately.. we've already booked our flight and can't move our trip forward 1 day. Let's say I bid for 12/15 - 12/17 and win between 135 - 160 (I'm hoping for the W); what do you propose I do for 12/14? Would it be super expensive to book a hotel for just 1 night at the 4* level, and not limited to just MTE? Or do you think we can do a decent 3* for ~100 somewhere?

Or do you think we can do a decent 3* for ~100 somewhere? If you win the last two nites you could try to extend your stay (if offered) for the first nite... but expect PRICELINE to counter-offer at a higher nightly rate then your first purchase. If that is not successful then you could try bidding for the first nite... HOTWIRE has a 3.5* in the ESB zone for $165 and a 4* hotel Downtown for $182, which you can at least use as a bit of a guideline. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Let us know how you'd like to proceed and we'll advise accordingly. msv Posted November 21, 2012 Author Report Posted November 21, 2012 I'd like to try bidding from 12/15 - 12/17 and attempt to extend my stay 1 night. would $135 be a good starting bid then?
thereuare Posted November 21, 2012 Report Posted November 21, 2012 What is your maximum bid? Is MTE the only zone you're willing to accept?Let us know the above and we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. thereuare Posted November 21, 2012 Report Posted November 21, 2012 When bidding 4* in NYC you have SIX re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.Select 4* MTE...Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $135, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $140, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $145, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $150, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $155, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $160You could try the above for 12/14-12/17, then if rejected close the browser, use a link on the board to re-access PRICELINE, and repeat for 12/15-12/17.Any questions feel free to ask. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes. msv Posted November 23, 2012 Author Report Posted November 23, 2012 Just got a win for $175 4* MTE 12/14 - 12/17 @ the Doubletree by Hilton Metropolitan New York. This hotel is listed as 3.5* in the forum.. so I guess it's a 4* now. Was hoping for the W but I guess this is fine as well.Priceline is offering this @ $192/night, saved $17.
thereuare Posted November 24, 2012 Report Posted November 24, 2012 Congratulations on your success! To confirm, you won this property thru bidding on PRICELINE? (if not and it was HOTWIRE, can you please add a reply to this thread with the amenities shown before your purchase... you can still view this information by going to HOTWIRE and clicking the MY ACCOUNT link near the top right of their home page.)Sorry if the savings weren't and this isn't the hotel you were hoping for, but glad to see you'll be able to make this work for your needs. You're also near my often recommended Ess-A-Bagel (Third Ave at 51st St) which has one of the best bagels in the city, makes for a nice, and relatively inexpensive, breakfast among local NYers.Thank you for sharing your win with the board and letting us know of the new star rating for this property, we have updated the Priceline Hotel List accordingly. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Enjoy your stay.
