Newbie to Bidding HELP

Hi, I would like to bid on a flight EWR--->MSY December the 30 returning on January 2. Round trip tickets are about $412. Any advice on how much I should bid. I was thinking 250. Any successful bid stories around the holidays?

See this thread (particularly the 2nd post) as it explains how you can get an almost unlimited number of re-bids when bidding on aifare... you could start at ~$200 and then increase each bid between $5-$25 (bigger increments at the lower bid prices which are less likely to be accepted and smaller increments at the higher bid prices as you approach more reasonable/realistic prices)

HOWEVER, i will note that this is a very busy time of air travel and i think your odds of getting a deal that offers enough of a discount to make an opaque purchase worthwhile (where you can't choose the flight times, length of layover, layover airport) are somewhat slim... how much of a discount would you need to make it worthwhile?
