pgd Posted August 17, 2005 Report Posted August 17, 2005 Hi. New member. Have been seeing the posts to get an idea on how to bid on priceline and hotwire.I am not getting any 4* hotels in Vancouver for the above dates under $110 on priceline. And so started looking at Hotwire - nothing less than $150 in the last 4 days.Decided to go with 3* in Hotwire. All I am getting is a 3* hotel for $90. Can't figure out which hotel it is from the Amenities and the area - looked at the forum list....It comes up as - Downtown Vancouver Entertainment district with Restaurant; Fitness center; Businesss center and Laundry facilities.Any idea and/or tips? Thanks,PGD
thereuare Posted August 17, 2005 Report Posted August 17, 2005 Welcome to BetterBidding! The above 3* on Hotwire has not yet been identified (there is also a 3* appearing for your dates with only Restaurant and Fitness icons... $90 as well). Why not try a 3* bid on Priceline, or is there an area of the zone or a particular hotel you are trying to avoid? If you'd like to go that route and need help with a bidding strategy let us know.I would also check out EasyClickTravel. pgd Posted August 17, 2005 Author Report Posted August 17, 2005 Thanks for the quick reply! I did not want to go for 3* in Priceline mainly because of reviews on Sandman Hotel (3*) in one of the other forums - they said the rooms were too small. I am travelling with kids and do want to live in a match box ;-) Even though, we are going to use it for only sleeping mainly......We want to stay close to downtown.I will look at EasyClickTravel now and try my luck.Regards,PGD
pgd Posted August 17, 2005 Author Report Posted August 17, 2005 Easyclicktravel did not have any good options either for 3* or better.
thereuare Posted August 17, 2005 Report Posted August 17, 2005 Then i think your options are:1) choose a 3* (or higher) rated hotel via Hotwire in the zone that the Sandman is not in (Hotwire divides this area into 3 sections vs. priceline's 1)2) bid higher for a 4* property3) wait it outRates do not look very high for your dates so i would inclined to book a cancellaable back-up (see our SUPPORT PAGE for hotel-direct links) and continue to try. This stay is close enough that i don't think it's a timing issue, but on the otherhand rates are not high at a few of the 4* properties and within the range of when we usually see acceptances at the prices you've bid.Keep us updated. pgd Posted August 17, 2005 Author Report Posted August 17, 2005 Finally made the reservation for Vancouver. Got it through Priceline - $110 for Hyatt Regency. 4 star hotel.I actually added Vancouver airport area and dropped the bid from $125 to $110, this was accepted - much to my surprise. And I got the area I wanted initially too ;-)Maybe something freed up or that is way the system works - I don`t know. Either way, I like it!Thanks for your advice.
