jeremyscarolina Posted November 17, 2012 Report Posted November 17, 2012 Hello, I've used priceline several times through the years and have always had decent luck but I've never used it for NYC. Trying to plan a trip to take my grandmother as a Christmas gift. Been looking at 12/11 - 12/14. Would like to have 2 full days in the city so I need 3 nights. These dates are not set in stone but would like to keep it close. I've placed several bids for 3.4 and 4 stars around 150/nightly but to no avail. I would like to keep it at a maximum of $600/3 nights. Am I asking too much? What am I missing? I've used several locations for the midtown area and increased bids.
thereuare Posted November 17, 2012 Report Posted November 17, 2012 Welcome to BetterBidding!Just how flexible are your dates? If you could delay this trip by 3-4 day you'll likely see a fairly sharp drop in rates starting on Friday or Saturday... if you could extend to Sunday (12/16-12/19) even better. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. jeremyscarolina Posted November 17, 2012 Author Report Posted November 17, 2012 I would say my flexibility ranges from about 12/10 - 12 -20 because she request that we not be gone right at Christmas so your suggested dates would work. Any particular reason for your prediction? If I use those dates do you think 3.5 my bidding prices are feasible? Where should I start my bid?
AaronJB Posted November 17, 2012 Report Posted November 17, 2012 Around 11/25-12/15 is traditionally the prime period for holiday shopping and festivities, and that's when you see the highest hotel rates. The period from around 12/16-28 is noticeably cheaper before NYE traffic. If you were to move your date/s to 12/16-19, I'd start at $90 (not likely to be accepted, but worth trying) and work higher by $5's at the 4* level in Midtown. I think getting something under $150 (and quite possibly under $125) at the 4* level should not be a problem (based on rates I'm seeing) for 12/16-19 in Midtown.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
jeremyscarolina Posted November 17, 2012 Author Report Posted November 17, 2012 Thanks so much! Just won the Mansfield Hotel for 120/night for 12/16 - 12/19. Never heard of it but 3 nights in NYC at a 4* for a total of $457 including trip insurance sounds good to me!
