I'm a little disappointed with my first Hotwire buy. This hotel wasn't even on my radar after checking the amenities list. I was betting it was the Sheraton.

My Hotwire price is 103 + 24.25 tax/fees = $127.25

Expedia and Hotels.com are currently booking this hotel (standard 2 queen room) for $119 + 17.85 tax = $136.85

So using Hotwire saved me less than 10 bucks. Is this typical? If so, I'm not convinced it is worth the mystery to use Hotwire. Or perhaps as a newbie I just don't know how to work the system to get the best savings?

Sorry to hear you're disappointed with the results. Although you can often 'narrow down the field' with HOTWIRE, it's still a best guess and occasionally it doesn't go as expected... it's still an opaque product. I'm not currently seeing this property offered when i search HOTWIRE for your dates, but in the future ask for help before your purchase as sometimes there are other clues which can raise a question of doubt over an ID and we can try to alert you to such possibilities. Also, because you were searching for 4adults many hotels, who only load rates eligible for double occupancy, were taken out of the picture and limited the number of hotels competing for this stay.

Usually the savings are better than what you experienced with this purchase, but sometimes the hotel doesn't discount the rate given to the opaque suppliers enough that the savings aren't as great as we usually see (thus the reason behind BiddingHelper.com to research rates beforehand to see what prevailing rates are for your specific dates of travel). Fortunately this is just a one nite stay and hopefully you'll be able to make it work for your needs.
