Hi,

This is my first post and while I think I have read the requisite information/messages, I apologize in advance if there is something I should have seen and missed.

Anyways, I plan on using Priceline's name your own price feature to book a hotel/resort in Maui from 01/07/2013 to 01/11/2013.

I really would like to do this knowing what properties I have the potential of booking.

Snooping around on this site I have found the following hotels/resorts for the Ka'anapali - Lahaina Area:

Hyatt Regency Maui Resort

Sheraton Maui Resort and Spa

The Westin Maui Resort and Spa

Westin Ka'Anapali Ocean Resort

Do I have all of them? Does anyone know of any I may be missing? Any info would be much appreciated. Thanks

Welcome to BetterBidding!

See the Priceline Hotel List for all hotels that have been reported to the board in this zone/region. However, also note the comments/disclaimer at the top of the board regarding new hotels being added, star ratings changing, and the list is only hotels reported to the board.

Usually if you're trying to determine the hotel(s) you may receive beforehand HOTWIRE is a better option as you can take a guess based upon the amenities associated with the property as well as any other clues provided, but the trade-off is that PRICELINE is usually a little cheaper than HOTWIRE, so it depends what is most important to you for this stay and if the 'educated guess' is worth it or not.

What is your expected budget (per nite before fees/taxes) for this trip?

Using the PRICELINE links from this board, I have tried unsuccessfully to book a 4* or resort quality hotel in Maui 3 times. I have not had my bid accepted anytime. I have bid up to 220$. From other threads I see that this price isnt totally unreasonable. but perhaps the dates I am going, January 7th to 11th are during a particularly busy time, and this 220 cap is too low? Are rates likely to continue to go up during this time of year or might I get lucky if I wait it out?

Hotwire has a $200 4* for your dates. One caveat though - Hotwire can sometimes be a little more generous with stars. Roughly a 1/2 star. So a 4* Hotwire might be a 3.5* Priceline.

There is a good discussion on early and late bidding up in the FAQs. To answer your specific question, rates could go either up or down and there really isn't any way of knowing. If you want to play the waiting game, making a cancelable back-up reservation is a good thing to do.

Unfortunately I'm not seeing the $200 HOTWIRE 4* hotel when searching for the dates above, but if you are please list the amenities that are associated with this offer.

This is generally considered high-season for Hawaii and there is no telling if rates will come down between now and your stay OR if they will continue even higher. Using MAPS and HOTELS.com the best rate i can find at a 'known' 4* or Resort property for your dates is $369/nite. If rates remain at this level, what would be your next step... increase your budget, lower your star rating, visit some other location?

Ive seen that too, I just think the hotel they are referring to is the Makena Beach and Golf Resort, which according to my reading of it, is being a bit generous with the stars. Could be wrong though?

I am angling for a place with a really nice pool, like the Grand Wailea (def not in the budget) or one of the resorts like the Westin or the Sheraton. That may not be possible, I think I'll give it another week before booking something of a lower caliber.

In the meantime I will look into making a cancellable reservation. I appreciate all the advice.
