New2bid Posted November 13, 2012 Report Posted November 13, 2012 Looking for bidding assistance for New York City on a one night stay, 12/08/12 to 12/09/12. Attending an event near the Met. Would like a 4* in Midtown East(MTE), Midtown West(MTW), Times Square(TS), Central Park South(CPS), or Upper West Side(UWS). Would bid up to $270. I know it is only one night and a busy time of the year. I have booked a 3*-3.5* back up hotel at $296 in Midtown with a 24 hr cancellation policy. I could bid up to that for the 4* but, would prefer to be lower. Also not opposed to a hotwire deal. Thanks for any help.

New2bid Posted November 14, 2012 Author Report Posted November 14, 2012 Worked through the bidding strategy to $270 with no luck. Will keep trying. My guess is since it is such a busy time of year combined with a lower inventory due to residents displaced by the hurricane I probably won't be able to get a hit until the week of December 2nd. Is it wishful thinking that a max bid of $270 should get me a room?
thereuare Posted November 14, 2012 Report Posted November 14, 2012 There is no telling if rates will drop closer to your stay... or if they will continue even higher. My guess is that this has more to do with a solo Saturday nite during one of the busiest times of year in the city (this is one of the most expensive weekends) more so than any hurricane displacement.Using MAPS and HOTELS.com what is the best rate you're able to find at an acceptable hotel in the zones you're seeking? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. New2bid Posted November 15, 2012 Author Report Posted November 15, 2012 Using MAPS and HOTELS.com.com the best rates are as follows:CPS- 4* Le Parker Meridien- $489MTE- 4* Hilton Manhattan East- $499MTW- 4* Royalton Hotel- $501TS- 4* Westin NY Times Square- $559UWS- 4* The Empire Hotel- $449May add the following zones and just pay more for cab uptown. Empire State Building(ESB)- Affinia Dumont- $429Madison Square Garden(MSG)- Ramada Plaza New Yorker- $395
thereuare Posted November 16, 2012 Report Posted November 16, 2012 With rates that high you can see how tight demand is... and although there is more margin for the hotel when selling a room for $450 then when they sell it for $200, they will likely discount less (on a percentage basis) when rates are $450 vs. $200 since when rates at at $450 they have likely sold most of their rooms on their own and have fewer vacant rooms available. You could wait it out and hope that a hotel releases inventory closer to your date (although historically this is one of the busier weekends in the city)... or if you're willing to stay Downtown HOTWIRE has a 4* hotel offered for $205 (which would leave a lot left over for cab fare)Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.
