jsholm Posted October 26, 2012 Report Posted October 26, 2012 I can't seem to win any of my bids...looking in 4 locations..Timesq. Mid E Mid W & Central Park...went as high a 200.00 and nothing???
AaronJB Posted October 27, 2012 Report Posted October 27, 2012 Welcome to Betterbidding. This is generally one of the busier/busiest times of the year in NYC. What would be your desire budget per night for this stay?Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
jsholm Posted October 27, 2012 Author Report Posted October 27, 2012 Thanks for your response...I would go as high as 250.00....
AaronJB Posted October 27, 2012 Report Posted October 27, 2012 Unfortunately, for MTW/MTE/TS/CPS, given the rates I'm seeing in terms of regular rate and on HOTWIRE, I think it will likely take at least close to your $250 budget. You do have a bit of time though, so I'd continue higher by $5's starting at $205 using re-bidding. I do see what appears to be the 4* Ramada Plaza New Yorker for $235 on HOTWIRE, although that is in a different zone than the zones listed above. Unfortunately, these dates are similarly busy across the board (or else splitting the stay would be a consideration. If there is any flexibility with dates, 11/25-29 and especially 11/24-28 are still expensive, but noticeably better than 11/28-12/2Thank you for using the sit's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
jsholm Posted October 30, 2012 Author Report Posted October 30, 2012 Thanks for the info...unfortunately my arrival is booked for the 28th..I'll keep trying...
thereuare Posted October 30, 2012 Report Posted October 30, 2012 Using MAPS and HOTELS.com, what is the best rate you're able to find at a 4* hotel in one of the ones that you're bidding? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. jsholm Posted November 1, 2012 Author Report Posted November 1, 2012 So please confirm I'm bidding correctly...if I choose a 5* in Times Sq. starting at 200...I can pretty much go though all the zones as there are not other 5*'s...correct???
AaronJB Posted November 1, 2012 Report Posted November 1, 2012 Re-bid zones are other zones that do not have 5*, as discussed in this thread: re-bidding. You can try $200, but my guess is a 5* for these dates in Midtown will take $300+, and possibly more towards the mid-$300's. Please let us know if you have additional questions.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
thereuare Posted November 2, 2012 Report Posted November 2, 2012 ...if I choose a 5* in Times Sq. starting at 200...I can pretty much go though all the zones as there are not other 5*'s...correct???Yes, this is correct at this time, but new hotels can be added or other hotels upgraded at any time, so you need to know how to determine your re-bid zones (as per Priceline Re-Bidding Explained) and double check before each bidding cycle to make sure that nothing has changed since you last looked. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Let us know how your bidding goes or if we can be of further help along the way. jsholm Posted November 7, 2012 Author Report Posted November 7, 2012 Hi again,I'm still bidding using the same parameters though I've started in the mid 200's....last evening with the last bid in my 4 preferred zones I was up to 265.00 with not luck...I still have some time as the check-in date isn't until the 28th. Thanks

jsholm Posted November 9, 2012 Author Report Posted November 9, 2012 Bidding again last night as high as 275.00, unfortunately no win. I did have an interesting window pop up and suggest if I go 88.00 dollars higher up to 363.00 I would have a better chance to win.How many rebid zones are there for a 3+ star. I'm still looking in the TS MTW MTE & CPS locations. I counted 5, though when checking Priceline hotels I noticed there was a 3+ in Long Is. City and I didn't want to risk with a hotel in that location. What would your suggested starting bid be. Thanks
thereuare Posted November 9, 2012 Report Posted November 9, 2012 At the 3.5* level there are FIVE re-bid zones... only ONE re-bid zone at the 3* level (it's not clear above which one you're referring to)Note that when bidding 3.5* and lower:MTE - some 'known' hotels can be up to a 15 minute walk to the subway... is this acceptable?CPS - has the Hudson Hotel, which while well located, has notoriously small rooms (~140 sq. ft.).. is this acceptable?Have you considered ESB and/or MSG to add to your bidding?Using MAPS and HOTELS.com what is the best rate you're able to find at an acceptable hotel thru conventional booking channels? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. jsholm Posted November 11, 2012 Author Report Posted November 11, 2012 Can you confirm that Long Island City in one of my rebids for a 3.5*....I've gone as high as 275.00 in the 3.5* area with no luck...I will consider ESB & MSG to my search. thanks
AaronJB Posted November 11, 2012 Report Posted November 11, 2012 HOTWIRE has a 3.5* in the ESB area for $200 and a 3.5* in MTE for $259 for 11/28-12/2, as well as a 4* in Chelsea for $261.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
jsholm Posted November 12, 2012 Author Report Posted November 12, 2012 Can you confirm that Long Island City in one of my rebids for a 3.5*
thereuare Posted November 12, 2012 Report Posted November 12, 2012 When bidding 3.5* in NYC you have FIVE re-bid zones... and one of them is indeed Long Island City. However, i'd highly recommend you understanding how to check your re-bid zones and determine ALL FIVE re-bid zones as you can then utilize all of them and we can suggest a proper bidding strategy. If you don't know how to determine your re-bid zones see Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask any questions that you may have (or confirm your re-bid zones with the board)Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. jsholm Posted November 13, 2012 Author Report Posted November 13, 2012 THANK YOU for all your help with bidding, unfortunately I couldn't get anything in my price range with priceline and hotwire, although I did win big with airbnb and found a super 1 bedroom apartment 1 block from times square...thanks again...janet
AaronJB Posted November 13, 2012 Report Posted November 13, 2012 Thank you for closing the thread. Enjoy your stay.
