keira Posted November 4, 2012 Author Report Posted November 4, 2012 The booking was made for 1 adult + 1child. We just check into the hotel yesterday night with our stroller and luggage.. The hotel staff looked stunned as we walked in. The recpetionist then apologetically inform the the hotel has no elevator and that Hotwire should have inform us before we made the booking. They were very nice and did their best to give us the best room they could. We had a room on d 1st floor but we have do 3 flights of stairs with huge steps to get there as well. They offered to help us the best they can for transporting things up and down. What they didn't know is that my child has special needs and is in town for his therapy. Climbing steps like this is a huge struggle for him, he did them on fours. And I had an old fracture which cause a lot of pain if I take stairs extensively. And lifting while climbing is cruciating. So unless i call someone everytime i want to get out of the hotel, we have to leave the stroller behid. In a 3 star hotel of a quiet place like burnaby, u do not expect someone to be on d standby to help you up the stairs all the time. We return from a grocery trip today, and I spend d rest of d day in throbbing pain. We will be staying here for a month, I cannot imagine how it would be for us. I am very sure we are only people that do not belong to d disabled category yet struggle with stairs. Many others with heart condition or knee problems would too. Set aside the marketing strategy and sales, Hotwire owe consumers a responsibility of giving a very crucial piece of information.I did a quick search, the rates have all gone up for my extended booking dates. And I cannot afford to forgo a 1.8k hotel fees to stay somewhere else. I wrote to Hotwire and they said they need 12 to 24 hrs to repond. I will update if they do but I don't think much can be done.Set aside d missing elevator, it is a very good deal. D hotel even throw in free breakfast n Internet even when it's not stated in the booking condition. And they are indeed worth the good rating.
thereuare Posted November 5, 2012 Report Posted November 5, 2012 If HOTWIRE is not willing/able to cancel the remaining nites of this reservation (they are usually very understanding from a customer service point of view) i would inquire with the hotel about moving to a first floor room for the balance of your stay if/when one becomes available (assuming the hotel has rooms on the first floor)If booking in the future, although you are not handicapped, i would seek a HOTWIRE hotel that shows a 'Room Accessible' amenity in the future as this should ensure a room that is accessible without stairs. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Good luck, and let us know how you make out with HOTWIRE. keira Posted November 11, 2012 Author Report Posted November 11, 2012 Never got back any reply. Only an automated one that said they will respond within 24 hrs. I wrote back again after d 3 rd day and nothing comes back.
AaronJB Posted November 11, 2012 Report Posted November 11, 2012 I'd try calling HOTWIRE, and seeing if the hotel can move you to another room. Thank you for keeping us updated and hopefully you'll be able to work things out with HOTWIRE and/or the hotel. Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
