We stayed here for three nights 10/13-10/16 and I'm so glad that I didn't pay full price. We scored a Priceline deal for $160 a night. Some of the pros were comfortable bed and good location (I guess). Park Avenue. But the only thing we actually walked to was MOMA. Most everything else we took the subway. We had a relatively quiet room since we were not directly above the street. We had an 8th floor room facing St. Bart's. Also, there were very few kids so hallway noise was almost non-existent. One other thing that could be considered a pro was there was no bed bugs - I guess they've had problems.

The room was in serious need of renovations: peeling paint and plaster, leaky faucet handles, running toilet, NO HEAT, broken bathroom door handle, no fan in bathroom. And internet was $18 per day! Food prices were outrageous so we didn't eat there. There are just too many good choices in the city to pay $20 for an omelette.

It was my husband's birthday and they did give us two drink coupons to use in one of their bars but we never got around too it since we chose not to spend much time there. They actually have a dress code for the lobby - no jeans, t-shirts, baseball caps, etc. And while we were always dressed nice we just weren't fancy enough to hang out in the lobby or bar.

I've only ever stayed in one other really fancy hotel (The Nines in Portland, OR) so I don't have much to compare the W-A to but I will say that The Nines was so worth the high price. They went above and beyond with turn down service, free bottles of water, free wireless, hors d'oeuvres, desserts and drinks served free in the lounge, door men who actually open the door for you, elegant and updated decor. The W-A offered none of this.

I guess paying under $200 for a hotel in MTE is good so I wouldn't recommend against this hotel if you can get a great Priceline deal just don't expect 5 star accommodations or treatment.

Also be aware that there is scaffolding at the Park Ave entrance so that can detract from the opulent entry that some people enjoy.
