jdmr Posted October 15, 2012 Report Posted October 15, 2012 I am trying to book 10/26 to 10/27 at 4 or 5*. I would like to pay $140 or less before taxes/feesTo take advantage of the re-bidding zones, it looked like sticking to 5* would give the most number of re-bid opportunities.I am having trouble, however, determining what the re-bid zones are. When I do a regular Priceline search to determine highest star rating in each zone, I am only provided with a list of 7. These are:Las Vegas StripWest of StripEast of Strip - McCarran Airport (LAS) Fremont St - Downtown Area North Las Vegas Henderson - Lake Las Vegas Boulder Highway Strip --I have determined than only the Las Vegas Strip zone has 5*When I go to name my own price, I am provided a longer list (14!), in which some options do not match up. These are:Boulder Strip Fremont St. Vicinity Henderson Lake Las Vegas Las Vegas Airport (LAS) Las Vegas Convention Center Las Vegas Strip North Las Vegas Strip Vicinity North Las Vegas Strip Vicinity South Mount Charleston - Indian Springs NW Las Vegas Near Las Vegas Strip East Near Las Vegas Strip West Nellis - Las Vegas Speedway Summerlin I'm really not sure what to make of this...I would greatly appreciate any guidance on the re-bidding process and perhaps a number to start at. Thanks!
thereuare Posted October 16, 2012 Report Posted October 16, 2012 You don't need/want to use the 'retail' side of PRICELINE when determining your re-bid zones. Try this:1) Use the PRICELINE search box on the upper right of this page, enter 'Las Veags, NV' and your dates, and click "GO".2) List each zone that is offered in this region. 3) Next to each zone list the highest star rating offered in the zone. The way to determine the highest star rating offered in the zone is by selecting the first zone i the list, then scrolling down to see the highest star rating selectable (ie- not greyed out). NEXT UNcheck the selected zone, place a checkmark in the next zone, and repeat the process for each zone in the region. Each time you take note of the highest star rating in the zone, make sure that only ONE zone is selected above.4) post your findings and we'll take it from thereIf you don't follow the above just post back and we'll break it down further. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. jdmr Posted October 16, 2012 Author Report Posted October 16, 2012 Clever! My results: (highest star in bracket)Boulder Strip (3*)Fremont St. Vicinity (4*)Henderson (3*)Lake Las Vegas (4*) Las Vegas Airport (LAS) (4*)Las Vegas Convention Center (4*)Las Vegas Strip North (5*)Las Vegas Strip Vicinity North (5*)Las Vegas Strip Vicinity South (5*)Mount Charleston - Indian Springs (not able to select)NW Las Vegas (3.5*)Near Las Vegas Strip East (4*)Near Las Vegas Strip West (4*)Nellis - Las Vegas Speedway (3*) Summerlin (3.5*)Based on these findings, I will stick with 5* in order to ensure I secure only Las Vegas Strip Vicinity North or Las Vegas Strip Vicinity South and do re-bids in the following zones:Boulder Strip, Fremont St. Vicinity, Henderson, Lake Las Vegas, Las Vegas Airport (LAS), Las Vegas Convention Center, NW Las Vegas, Near Las Vegas Strip East, Near Las Vegas Strip West, Nellis - Las Vegas Speedway, Summerlin [11 re-bid zones]Based on these 11 re-bid zones, can you recommend a starting bid?CORRECTION: I am interested in Strip Vicinity South and Strip North (NOT Strip Vicinity North ie Trump)
jdmr Posted October 16, 2012 Author Report Posted October 16, 2012 I got antsy I tried a $90 starting bid going up by increments of $5 for the 11 re-bid zones and was rejected at my final bid of $145Any tips? Is my final price unreasonable for a 5* in this time frame? When it becomes closer to the date and I am still unsuccessful, I will become more flexible and would stay at any of the 4 or 4.5* from hotwire or Expedia
jdmr Posted October 16, 2012 Author Report Posted October 16, 2012 Amenities list:Resort Casino Fitness Center Pool(s) Restaurant(s) Business Center High-Speed Internet Access Golf Nearby Tennis Nearby Spa Services Accessible for the deadFree Parking Free Internet Accessible path of travel Accessible bathroom Handicapped parking Roll-in shower Recommended in 75 % of Hotwire customer reviews Any thoughts on what this might be?Luxor, Monte Carlo or Tropicana maybe?
thereuare Posted October 16, 2012 Report Posted October 16, 2012 Yes, you have your ELEVEN re-bid zones at the 5* level correct (NOTE: if you decide to lower your bidding to 4* be aware that Summerlin is NOT a re-bid zone... although no 4* hotels there they do offer Resorts, and a 4* bid can be upgraded to the higher rated Resort property... we can discuss further if it comes to that but didn't want to see you get antsy again ;) and bid the 4* level and make a mistake by adding Summerlin which you have the highest rating at 3.5* but if you look again 'Resort' is listed at the bottom and Resorts are offered in this zone)At current rates i'm guessing a 5* may run you closer to $165-$185 than it will $145.Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Let us know how you'd like to proceed and we'll advise accordingly. jdmr Posted October 16, 2012 Author Report Posted October 16, 2012 Understood. I made a new list for a 4* series of bids which had 6 re-bid zones but I've since removed Summerlin :)I will try my 5* strategy again tomorrow starting at the same amount but higher increments. Does that seem reasonable? On the other hand, I just saw a post below with a $73 success for the Vdara! (last minute however)
thereuare Posted October 17, 2012 Report Posted October 17, 2012 Best guess for this property would be the Luxor or Monte Carlo... it's most likely not the Tropicana. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Let us know how it goes or if we can be of further help. thereuare Posted October 17, 2012 Report Posted October 17, 2012 Understood. I made a new list for a 4* series of bids which had 6 re-bid zones but I've since removed SummerlinCAREFUL as there are only FOUR re-bid zones available at the 4* level in Vegas... make sure you confirm your re-bid zones before bidding at the 4* level. On the other hand, I just saw a post below with a $73 success for the Vdara! (last minute however)The priceline Las Vegas hotel win at the Vdara for $73 is for a Sun-Thur nite stay whereas your stay is for Friday nite... weekends in Vegas can often cost 2x-3x more than midweek.I will try my 5* strategy again tomorrow starting at the same amount but higher increments. Does that seem reasonable? If you let us know your maximum bid for this trip we will suggest a strategy for you to follow. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. jdmr Posted October 18, 2012 Author Report Posted October 18, 2012 I am ready to have a revised strategy on deck. I secured a fully refundable (up to 10/24) reservation at the MGM via Expedia at a total cost of $199.Between now and the 24th, I would like to attempt twice more for a 5* in Strip Vicinity South and Strip NorthList View obtains 5*s for this date at: $203-$499 base rateExpress details: $201 for South Vicinity & $453 for NorthRevised budget: bid up to $160Can you please recommend a strategy?
thereuare Posted October 18, 2012 Report Posted October 18, 2012 To confirm, both Strip South and Strip North are acceptable and a maximum bid of $160 for a 5* hotel? If so, using your ELEVEN re-bid zones:Select 5* Strip North and Strip South...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $135, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $140, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $143, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $145, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $148, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $150, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $153, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $155, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $158, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $160Any questions feel free to ask. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes. jdmr Posted May 15, 2013 Author Report Posted May 15, 2013 Thanks but my friend ended up finding a booking for one night at the MGM. I'm not sure what the price was but she used a travel agent
jdmr Posted May 15, 2013 Author Report Posted May 15, 2013 I was not successful. My friend ended up getting the MGM Grand via a travel agent and is was at least $200 out of desparation
