AaronJB Posted October 15, 2012 Report Posted October 15, 2012 My guess would be the Hyatt on Wacker.I'm also seeing what appears to be the W Lakeshore for $104 (the price you see may vary slightly.)Would the potential W be of any interest?Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
lentrekin Posted October 15, 2012 Author Report Posted October 15, 2012 The Hyatt would be great. We actually need a room for Thursday, Nov 1 and Sunday, Nov 4. I had chosen that location bc we arrive Thursday at 4pm to ORD and will take the South Shore to South Bend around 8-9 the next morning (I forget the schedule.). I was planning to take the blue line from ORD. I'd eyeballed the Hard Rock and Fairmont because they are both in close walking distance to stations for both, but can't justify the price if I can get something like the Hyatt just a tenth of a mile farther. Sunday prices seem to be slightly higher. Wonder why. We will be back in Chicago via South Shore by 10am Sunday and don't fly out until 4 the next day and had planned the Field Museum on departure day. Having the hotel close so that we can keep stored luggage with the concierge would be great. The W is just a bit farther away...it also doesn't look like it has the 95% approval that the Hyatt does on trip advisor...This is 2 adults (my aunt and me) and 2 tweens (my son and daughter, almost 13 and almost 12).Thoughts?

AaronJB Posted October 16, 2012 Report Posted October 16, 2012 The W chain is very much "love it or hate it" - they are very trendy boutique properties and it's understandable that they're not going to be everyone's cup-of-tea. I'm seeing what appears to be the Doubletree for $100 (which is on the other side of the river from the Hyatt and a couple of blocks more North, as well. The Hyatt is literally a couple of minutes North of the Fairmont and Hard Rock. The W isn't hugely further than the Hyatt, but it is a minor trek and, given that it is essentially on the lakefront, it is further from public transit. The W would depend not only on distance, but whether or not the style of the property would appeal. There are some good deals for 11/4 on HOTWIRE, but they are North of the river. I see what appears to be the other Hyatt (on St Clair) for $96 for 11/4.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
thereuare Posted October 16, 2012 Report Posted October 16, 2012 I'll also add that if limiting the acceptable hotels to those near the T stop, it doesn't appear that the 'further out hotels' (which aren't really that far) may only be a $5-$10 taxi ride... it may be better to save the $20+ on the hotel room and spend the $5-$10 on a taxi from train stop to hotel (which also saves you from rolling your luggage thru the streets of Chicago). Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.
