westcan Posted October 11, 2012 Report Posted October 11, 2012 Back in September I had a $7/night coupon from Facebook, and tried to use it to book a 3.5* hotel in November near the Miami Airport.Started at $50.00 (57 equivalent) - noBecause the coupon was going to expire in a couple of days, I didn't want to wait 24 hours everytime I made a failed bid, so I thought I would add in areas where I knew the prices for 3.5* would be much higer than the MIA Airport areaadded area Doral West and bid 53 (60 equivalent)- noadded area South Beach Ocean Drive and bid 55 (62 equivalent) - noadded area South Beach Collins and bid $58 (65 equivalent) - noNext day:started at $60 for MIA Airport ($67 equivalent) - noadded area Doral WEst and bid $62 ($69 equivalent) - noadded area South Beach Ocean Drive and bid $64 (71 equivalent) - noNext day:started at $66 for MIA Airport ($73 equivalent) - noadded area Doral West and bid $67 ($74 equivalent) - noadded area South Beach Collins and bid $68 ($75 equivalent) - noadded area South Beach Ocean Drive and bid $69 ($76 equivalent) - noMy coupon expired. For around the same date there was a win in the $65-$70 range for the area and * level I was looking for , so I thought I would wait some time before trying again, and I wasn't sure how this facebook coupon was working anyway.A couple of weeks later I tried again, with the same system so I wouldn't have to keep waiting 24 hours to up my bid for the Airport Area.Started bidding at $65 for the MIA Airport area (just in case prices had dropped) but could not get a room.By changing areas and increasing bids (over 2 days) my final bid was $80 for a 3.5* in the MIA Airport, Doral West, South Beach Collins and Sough Beach Ocean Drive areas. Finally, got a room at the Sheraton Miami Airport Hotel for $80. With taxes $98.63. A lot of work for 1 night, but it was fun figuring out how to keep bidding on the same day using Priceline's system. So far I have stayed at the following Miami Airport hotels, all via Priceline (and this website)4* Aipport Hilton (nice hotel but not much different from the 3.5*s3.5* Marriot (I think this hotel has the best restaurant/bar of the airport hotels if you want beer and pub food for supper)3.5* Sheraton (closest hotel to the airport, and the restaruant/bar has a great seared tuna salad)3.5* Doubletree (you get a cookie, the bar is ok, but the shuttle only runs every 1/2 hour so you can wait a while at the airport waiting to get to your hotel)
