Kmac21 Posted October 10, 2012 Report Posted October 10, 2012 I was wondering if someone could walk me through what the best strategy would be here...I'm looking for one room, preferably at the Holiday Inn - Southside in Pittsburgh (2.5*) on 10/13. I would also accept a hotel with a higher star rating in the downtown area, just a short cab ride away (Westin, Omni, etc.). How do I know where to start my bid at?I will support and always use the PRICELINE links for my searches - thanks!
Kmac21 Posted October 11, 2012 Author Report Posted October 11, 2012 Also, HOTWIRE has a 3.5* price set at $87.00. Does this help give a idea of what bid will be accepted? Thanks again!
Romelle Posted October 11, 2012 Report Posted October 11, 2012 Yes, it gives a general idea. A couple mental adjustments to that number. HOTWIRE can be more generous with stars, so it might be more like a Priceline 3*. But not necessarily so. Hotwire can be a little more expensive than PRICELINE (think of it as the value for knowing the amenities and having a shot at guessing what you might get).Regarding getting the Holiday Inn, you can't pinpoint a specific hotel. You have to be willing to accept any hotel in the bidding zone at the star level you are bidding (or higher). If you bid at the 2 1/2* level, PRICELINE also includes all star levels above that. You don't have much time left. For 2 1/2* bidding, there is only one free rebid zone. There is a discussion of that topic in the FAQs. That extra bid could help you quite a bit.In order for a moderator to supply you with a bidding strategy they need to know what your max bid would be? And whether you'd like to pursue that downtown higher star hotel first.I'm a member, not a moderator, but thought I'd help get you started since you don't have very many days to bid. You can make same day bids, but it is late enough today that probably wouldn't work for you. So you really only have three days of bidding.Romelle
