ChrisM76 Posted October 9, 2012 Report Posted October 9, 2012 All,I've been looking for a room in the convention center area for 3.5* or higher for Jan. 16 through 20th, 2013. I started bidding at $60 and have been moving up by about $6 everyday. My last bid was $110 and it was rejected. Would it be better to wait a couple of months and try again? And does anyone know if there's a special event in New Orleans that weekend that is keeping room rates up? I'd sort of be willing to drop to 3* but there's then the possibility of getting a hotel that is about five blocks away from the convention center. That's not too far, but less preferable overall.-Chris
AaronJB Posted October 10, 2012 Report Posted October 10, 2012 Room rates are not sky-high for these dates, but certainly higher-than-average. What would be your desired budget per night for this stay?Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
ChrisM76 Posted October 10, 2012 Author Report Posted October 10, 2012 I've already booked a fully refundable room in that area for $139.00 plus 13% tax. So something less than that would be preferable. I've been able to get four-star room in major cities before in the 80-100 range, so that was my ideal range, but anything less than 139 would be OK. -Chris

ChrisM76 Posted October 10, 2012 Author Report Posted October 10, 2012 There are about 3,000 people attending the conference, which is for the Society for Personality and Social Psychology.
thereuare Posted October 11, 2012 Report Posted October 11, 2012 That's not that big for New Orleans, HOWEVER, i did find a New Orleans Gift and Jewelry Show that has about 15K attendees and that is likely what is causing the higher than usual demand for these dates. Even with this other convention you may not be too far from a win... perhaps $120-$140 may be enough.Using MAPS and HOTELS.com what is the best rate you're able to find at an acceptable hotel near the Conventional Center for these dates? Is SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID an option? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. ChrisM76 Posted October 12, 2012 Author Report Posted October 12, 2012 According to Maps and Hotels, I could get a 3-star in the general vicinity for $139 per night. and a 2-star for $129 per night.
thereuare Posted October 12, 2012 Report Posted October 12, 2012 Based upon the rates above, are you willing to bid up to $139 for any 3.5* or better in the zone?
