stanax Posted August 12, 2005 Report Posted August 12, 2005 I am planning a trip that includes two nights in NY on Aug 27 and 28. There is a group of 6 of us, so I would like to get three rooms in the same place each night. I also need to try to get two beds in each room, so based on what I have read here I was thinking I need to use Priceline and specify 4 in each room. I am very unfamiliar with the hotels in NY, but think that the usual tourist areas around Manhattan and Central Park would be fine. I would like to get a 3 or 4 star, but of course want to keep the price down. I would love to be able to get something for about $150 a night, per room, but don't know what a realistic rate is for these dates. Any help on a bidding strategy would be very appreciated. I have also not bid on hotels before, so I will try to follow your advice carefully.Recap:NY Aug 27 and 283 rooms per night, 2 beds per room3 or 4 star, if possibleThanks
thereuare Posted August 12, 2005 Report Posted August 12, 2005 Welcome to BetterBidding!Priceline won't let you designate the number of beds or occupancy, everything booked thru them is for "double occupancy".... Hotwire is the service that will allow you to search for up to quad occupancy.Doing a quick Hotwire search it looks like a 4* is going to cost you closer to $180 or so... don't know if you can extend your budget or not. I believe the Millenium Broadway, the Sheraton New York, and the Millenium UN are all avaialble at approximately the same price... the Millenium Broadway or the Sheratn New York would be your better bets over the Millenium UN.Let us know your thoughts and/or how you want to proceed. stanax Posted August 12, 2005 Author Report Posted August 12, 2005 I guess we may have to spend a little more... I was looking at some other options - are you familiar with the Paramount Hotel New York? We can get rooms with 2 doubles for $179 there. I will check with the others in the group and see how high the budget can go.Thanks.
thereuare Posted August 12, 2005 Report Posted August 12, 2005 You'd be better off with the other choices mentioned above, even if a few dollars more than the Paramount, for which you can read the reviews HERE. stanax Posted August 18, 2005 Author Report Posted August 18, 2005 Thanks for your suggestions. We ended up booking rooms at the Hampton Inn Herald Square for $146 plus taxes (end up right about $170 a night for each room). This should be rooms with two double beds. The TripAdvisor reports didn't look too bad for this hotel. Thanks again,-Stan
