Schlabbe Posted October 3, 2012 Report Posted October 3, 2012 Hi,we will stay in San Francisco from 11/12 to 11/14.We would like to stay either in the Financial District or the SOMA and we are looking for a bidding strategy for a 4* hotel.Do you have any advice?I'm hoping to stay under 140$.Any help is appreciated.Best Regards
thereuare Posted October 3, 2012 Report Posted October 3, 2012 At current rates i think you're $140 maximum bid is going to be a bit tough for a 4* hotel, but with time on your side and to give it a try:When bidding 4* in San Francisco you have SEVEN re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.Select 4* Financial...Bid $95, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $100, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $105, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $110, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $113, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $115, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $118, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $120, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* Soma...Bid $95, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $100, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $105, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $110, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $113, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $115, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $118, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $120, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* Financial and SOMA...Bid $123, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $128, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $133, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $135, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $138, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $140Any questions feel free to ask. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes. Schlabbe Posted October 8, 2012 Author Report Posted October 8, 2012 Tried first up to 140$ without any luck. Then I raised my bids up to 160$. Same outcome. Can you guess how much higher I had to go?Why are rates that high at these dates?Best Regards
Romelle Posted October 8, 2012 Report Posted October 8, 2012 Hotwire has a $280 4* Financial District for your dates. While Priceline can be a little less expensive .....?The high rates certainly suggest some sort of major conference or such. If your plans make possible the consideration of other areas, several of them are much lower. Hotwire 4* Fisherman's Wharf is even only 107.Romelle
thereuare Posted October 9, 2012 Report Posted October 9, 2012 There is a Verge San Francisco Conference (Nov 12-13) which seems to piggyback the Green Festival (Nov 14-16 and many attendees may be arriving the day before) which i suspect is increasing rates for these dates (as well as an Animation Festival, but not sure how big of a draw this one is)As Romelle points out many neighboring zones are much cheaper in price, are any nearby zones acceptable given the price differential?Using MAPS and HOTELS.com (and the address 424 Clay St, San Francisco which is near the center of this zone) you can see that all of the 4* hotel for these dates are $300+ so you're probably looking at least in the low/mid $200's for a 4* hotel in this zone for these dates. If this immediate area is a must i do see the SW Hotel for $129/nite... it's only 2.5* rated but the reviews are decent and perhaps you could make this work for your needs (and appears to be cancellable up until a few days before your arrival so you could use this as a back-up while you continue to try PRICELINE / HOTWIRE).Let us know what you decide or how you'd like to proceed and how we can be of further help. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Schlabbe Posted October 29, 2012 Author Report Posted October 29, 2012 Hi,saw an offer for the Prescott for about 175$ (incl. taxes and breakfast) and booked it (not Priceline).I think this was a pretty good deal.I didn't want to bid for other zones because I saw there a few "not-so-good" hotels.Anyway I really appreciate your support.Thank you.
