antrob Posted October 2, 2012 Report Posted October 2, 2012 Hi,I'm looking for a New York City Hotel for Nov 10 - 12th. I already booked a refundable hotel room in chelsea/midtown west for $206/night before fees/taxes. It's the Comfort Inn Chelsea. I'm looking for something a little nicer or a bit more convenient. I know hotels in nyc in november are not cheap so I'm fully ok with not finding a better deal on priceline than I did on Choice Hotels website. Nevertheless, I have time and I want to see if I can find a good deal. I've used this site before successfully, so hopefully it'll work this time, too. I ideally want a 3* hotel but will do anything from 2* to 4*. I'll only do 2* for certain neighborhoods, like Chelsea b/c I've stayed in some of those hotels before and the location is the number 1 factor for me. Other 2* hotels I'm not so sure about. I only want to spend a little more than my booked hotel if it's higher star rating and/or in a more convenient area. So my max amount is around 215 dollars. The areas I will stay in are: Chelsea, Hell's Kitchen (most ideal location), Times Sq, Madison Sq Garden, and MTW. Here's my strategy: To do the free rebids, I'm not going to look for a 2* hotel, since it will complicate matters. I figured I'd try to look for 4* to 3.5* hotels in the above mentioned areas. That leaves me the following free rebooking areas: Coney Island, LIC, LES, Morningside Heights, Queensborough, and the Upper East Side. Those are all locations that only have a 3* hotel or lower. But how do I divide my rebooking search. Should I do all 5 locations or split them up (Chelsea, MSG, MTW) and then (Hell's Kitchen and Times Sq)? Thanks.
thereuare Posted October 3, 2012 Report Posted October 3, 2012 I think you should be able to beat your back-up reservation, but to confirm did you want to first try for a 4* hotel up to your limit, then if rejected try for a 3.5*... OR is your goal the least expensive 3.5* or better for this trip? Also, it appears that your best deal may be in the ESB zone where what seems be the St. Giles The Court is offered at $177/nite. As this zone is not listed as one of those above you're willing to bid, if this hotel is acceptable you may want to lower your maximum bid from $215 to $175.Let us know the information above and we'll advise accordingly as to how to proceed/bid.Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. antrob Posted October 8, 2012 Author Report Posted October 8, 2012 My goal is the least expensive 3.5* hotel. I am more about getting a cheaper price than higher star rating. At those star ratings, any of the hotels would be more than fine.I don't want to go to the ESB, it's too far east for what we plan to do while there. Thanks.
