RBC Concerts Posted October 1, 2012 Report Posted October 1, 2012 Hey guys,So it's my first time ever bidding on a hotel and need more tips. I'm the type of person that wants to make sure I have a hotel to stay at least a week in advance of my trip. But I've heard that ppeople get the best deals waiting a few days before? Is this true and how often will you get a decent bid? I'm just worried about getting screwed over and end up paying way more than I was supposed to if I could have booked further in advance. Also, I wanted to know what would be a good bidding price (not retail) for hotels near Radio City Music Hall, that would be Mid-town and Theater District. I'll be traveling 10/10-10/12Thanks in advance for your help! :)
thereuare Posted October 2, 2012 Report Posted October 2, 2012 Welcome to BetterBidding!Sometimes deals can best be had far in advance of your stay, at other times at the last minute, it all depends upon how actual reservations/cancellations at given point in time come in relative to expectations. For a further discussion of this subject see the related 'Bid Early or Close to Check-in' link in our PRICELINE FAQ, however, with less then 10 days to go before your stay i think you're already 'last minute' enough. If you enter 'New York City, NY' into the search box on the top right of this page, on the ensuing page, which zones (by PRICELINE name) are you willing to stay in? Also, what star rating are you seeking and what is your maximum budget (per nite before fees/taxes) for this trip? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Let us know the information above and we'll have a closer look at rates for your dates. RBC Concerts Posted October 2, 2012 Author Report Posted October 2, 2012 Thanks for the info so far. I'm looking to spend between $150-$200 a night for a 3-4* hotel near Radio City Music Hall, which is right in between Midtown West, Theater District and Midtown East. Is it even still possible to find one for $150 at this point?
RBC Concerts Posted October 3, 2012 Author Report Posted October 3, 2012 Found a 3* 'Boutique Hotel in Theatre DistrictWhat would a 'Boutique' hotel be??found a 3.5 in the same zone that says 'boutique' hotel that I may be interested in as well..
thereuare Posted October 3, 2012 Report Posted October 3, 2012 Please keep all posts for the same stay in the same thread. At current rates i think a 3* or better hotel at $200 or under in any of the three zones you mentioned will be a tough win, but as your stay is just a week away you're close enough that 'anything can happen' so it's certainly worth trying. What is the price of the Times Square Boutique properties... are they within your budget? If you'd like us to suggest a strategy to follow let us know if there are any other zones that are acceptable. Did you want to first try for a 4* up to your budget, then if rejected try up to your budget for a 3.5*, then up to your budget for a 3*... OR is your goal the least expensive 3* or better for this trip? Also, have a look at the CPS zone which is also very close to Radio City Music Hall, but note that when bidding this zone at 3.5* and under the Hudson Hotel becomes a possibility and they have notoriously small rooms (~140 sq. ft.)... would this be acceptable for your needs?Lastly, i'm not sure why you need to stay so close to Radio City, but assuming you only need to be there once or twice during your trip, it is very easily accessible via subway and i'd venture a guess that you could make do with other centrally located zones throughout midtown. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.
