leung32168 Posted September 30, 2012 Report Posted September 30, 2012 I have been unsuccessful for a 5* bid in Hong Kong from 10/29-11/2. The only 2 zones with 5 stars is West Hong Kong Island and Tsim Sha Tsui. My preference is Tsim Sha Tsui but West HK Island will do as well. I bid up to 230/night and have been unsuccessful. I bid 4* hotels up to 180 in those 2 zones and also was unsuccessful. Any hints? Will prices go down or availability go up as the date gets closer. Whats an optimal time to get the best deals before the date of travel? There is a 4star from Travelocity's top secret list for Tsim Sha Tsui thats going for 140/night. Its my backup if I don't get something my priceline in the next two weeks.
thereuare Posted October 1, 2012 Report Posted October 1, 2012 At current rates my guess is that you may be looking at ~$240-$260 for a 5* hotel if you were interested in bidding a bit higher... for a 4* someplace near $200.As far as timing the bid, there is no telling if rates will come down closer to your stay... or move even higher; it all depends how actual reservations/cancellations come in relative to expectations. For more on this subject see the related 'Bid Early or Close to Check-in' link in our PRICELINE FAQ.Lastly, keep in mind that while you try PRICELINE / HOTWIRE over the next few weeks, the Travelocity offer could disappear, so something you have to weigh/consider as well. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. (or our Travelocity link, also found in the Support Page, if you go that route)Let us know what you decide and how we can be of further help along the way.
