LIC Posted September 28, 2012 Report Posted September 28, 2012 Edit: Topic says this hotel is 5* but Priceline says 4* as of booking dateLast minute booking to Boston. First time to Boston, didn't want to stay in Cambridge (though may have saved us ~100? based on other winning bids)Strategy:1) Read about existing bids (thanks to you all, please keep the market color coming)2) Decided on our max price (about 175, which was what Hotwire had for a similar hotel)3) Decided on locations (here we were debating Cambridge, but decided against it)4) Execute on planBIDS:START:4* (no 3.5*)2 Boston Commons $120 ADD 12 Quincy Market - Financial District $130ADD 8 Copley Square - Back Bay $140ADD 3 Boston Harbor Front $150ADD add 3.5* $155ADD 1 Beacon Hill $160 (Nearing willingness to pay, close to quitting)ADD 9 Fenway Park $170 --> Accepted by Copley Square Hotel 4* (Relief for 4* instead of a 3.5*)(May have bid $5 higher and no more, would've bid tomorrow in Cambridge)FINAL:Winning bid $170Taxes $34 ---> NET $204REGRET?Reviews say Copley Square Hotel under re-construction. Hopefully no construction noise so I can sleep. But who works on Sat nights in Boston anyway?Good luck to you.Happy to hear if you have any suggestions to make a better strategy next time.
