zosch Posted September 24, 2012 Report Posted September 24, 2012 Hello everybody, its my first time in this forum and Id like to say hello to everybody and thanks for the great support!Im searching for a nice hotel in NY for the date 11/1 till 11/4 in Manhattan. The Area is not that important but Id like to get a room with a nice view, thats actually the most important part. Is there any advice how to get that done? Thanks for your great help and best regardszosch-- Show your appreciation by using the following links on the board to begin your travel purchases: Priceline& Hotwire--
thereuare Posted September 24, 2012 Report Posted September 24, 2012 Welcome to BetterBidding! The Area is not that important but Id like to get a room with a nice view...PRICELINE (and HOTWIRE) work best when you're looking for a great deal on a room... things like 'a nice view' can't be guaranteed unless you book directly with a hotel for a specific room type, and this room type will often cost more than a 'standard' room (and PRICELINE / HOTWIRE reservations are for standard room types)Also, if you're not aware, the NYC Marathon is Nov 4th and LOTS of both participants, their friends, and media come in days beforehand, so these dates are likely going to be much higher then you probably anticipate (if you haven't done any hotel rate research yet). What is your expected budget for this trip? If you search HOTWIRE does anything appear within your budget? zosch Posted September 24, 2012 Author Report Posted September 24, 2012 Hello thereuarethanks for your help, didnt know about the NYM but I already booked so it doesnt matter :) My budget is about 1000dollar, lower would be nice for sure. Is there any chance to get upgraded for some extra money at the check in? guess it isnt right? Most important is the view so I thought there would be maybe some way to get that done. I totaly love these floor to ceiling windows (for example "the standard" or "on the rivington")thanks againzosch
AaronJB Posted September 24, 2012 Report Posted September 24, 2012 Did you book a back-up? If so, what did you book (hotel/rate) so that we can have something to compare to. You can ask to upgrade at check-in, but it's up to the hotel - HOTWIRE and PRICELINE reservations are not eligible for upgrades and it's up to the hotel whether to offer an upgrade (which will likely cost a fee) or not. There's no way to guarantee anything beyond a basic room when using either discount service. Is your budget $1000 + taxes/fees or $1000 "all-in" (including taxes/fees)?Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
zosch Posted September 25, 2012 Author Report Posted September 25, 2012 Hey, I booked the flight, should have added that. Its $1000 + taxes/fees. I would rly like to use Hotwire/Priceline but idk whether I want to risk not being able to be upgraded. Thanks zosch
thereuare Posted September 25, 2012 Report Posted September 25, 2012 Let us know what you decide how you'd like to proceed, but if you're looking for a room with a view i would find a hotel where you could book a specific room, as upgrades (paid or complimentary) may likely be hard to come by for these dates due to the marathon crowds. If the most important aspect of your trip is the view from the room i'd also consider staying outside of the city in Hoboken, where the W Hoboken will give you unobstructed views of either midtown or downtown, and outside the door of the hotel you'll be right on the river with incredible views of the entire skyline. The downside is that you're not in Manhattan (although it's an easy commute via PATH train)... but the best views of the city are indeed outside of it.The Hyatt Jersey City is another slightly less expensive option, but the W Hotel is newer and nicer and worth the extra $25/nite difference, imo, since it also gives you the Hoboken nightlife at your doorstep. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. thereuare Posted October 15, 2012 Report Posted October 15, 2012 Please keep all posts for the same stay in the same thread.Since your original dates were for 11/1-11/4 and you're now looking for 11/2-11/4, have you found something separately for the nite of 11/1?Of the properties above the only one i'm currently seeing when searching HOTWIRE for your dates is the 4.5* Times Square property for which my best guess would be the InterContinental Times Square. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Let us know how it goes or if we can be of further help. zosch Posted October 15, 2012 Author Report Posted October 15, 2012 Hello, sry my bad, didnt know that. And youre right, i made a mistake and Im searching for 11/1 till 11/3! The last night we will stay at some airport hotel cause of the marathon. Thanks again!Max
thereuare Posted October 15, 2012 Report Posted October 15, 2012 Before paying $350+ per nite for a hotel room in NYC, are you willing to stay outside of Manhattan? What is believed to be the W Hoboken is available on HOTWIRE for $141/nite... this is a fairly new hotel (~3 years old), gets GREAT reviews (and views of Manhattan), and offers easy access to the PATH train 4 blocks away. You do miss out a little on the 'buzz' of staying in NYC itself, but for $200+ per nite savings it's worth the trade-off, imo. (it's only available 11/1-11/3... not for the nite of 11/3-11/4)Let us know your thoughts and we'll take it from there.
