bwies1 Posted September 24, 2012 Report Posted September 24, 2012 Hi,We are interested in a Resort level stay for the Kanaapali area for Jan 24-30. I have clicked the PRICELINE link on betterbidding and tried $160 and $170 without success. I am looking for recommendations as to wether we should just retry these same amounts later on (as we have 4 months until we go) or if there are other suggestions. I saw that during the high season in January last year, people were able to win bids at between $140 and $215. I am guessing that doing a back up reservation now that can be canceled later might be a good idea as well.Thanks,bwies1
thereuare Posted September 24, 2012 Report Posted September 24, 2012 Nobody can say if rates will come down, or move even higher, between now and your stay. However, using MAPS and HOTELS.com the best rate i'm able to find for a Resort class property is $359/nite... i would currently bid up to $200/nite (which would still be a very nice deal, imo) and use that as my upper limit. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Keep us updated on your progress and let us know if we can be of further help along the way (or if you need a more specific bidding strategy) Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases

bwies1 Posted September 27, 2012 Author Report Posted September 27, 2012 Hi,Wanted to check on something. If I add 4* to my bidding, does that mean that the only likely hotel that would be added to the bidding would be the Westin Kaanapali Ocean Resort Villas? That is based on reading the Priceline hotel list. Also on the resort list is the Whaler but is my understanding correct that it has been a long while since anyone won a name your own price Kanaapali resort bid at the Whaler? Thanks for all you do.
AaronJB Posted September 27, 2012 Report Posted September 27, 2012 If you bid 4*, you have to be willing to accept any 4* in the zone and you can be upgraded to a higher star rating. It has been a long time since anyone won a bid at the Whaler, but it is still listed as a resort and could still be a possibility. As noted on the list, the list provides only the hotels that have been reported to the board - star ratings can change at any time, and new hotels can appear at any time.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
bwies1 Posted October 16, 2012 Author Report Posted October 16, 2012 Just an update.I have been bidding a couple of times a week and have gone up as high as $215 without any luck. I am considering trying agan but adding the 4* hotels and hoping for the Westin Villas which seems to me is as close to a resort that I have not been bidding on. I realize I could get a different 4* hotel although I have not seen any wins listed for Priceline recently. If I do try with the 4* I will start at about $170 as I saw someone won for December at that hotel at that price.I know I have plenty of time left until January 24th but was wondering if anyone knows if most of the hotels might sell out during high season?

bwies1 Posted October 17, 2012 Author Report Posted October 17, 2012 Hi,I also got an email from Priceline for a 24 hour sale for $7 off per day. If I recall correctly we can still select the PRICELINE link here, then select my rewards to still get the additional discounts. I think I will try later today.

bwies1 Posted October 23, 2012 Author Report Posted October 23, 2012 I have still not had any success so far up to about $215. I am now considering splitting our time between Wailea and Lahaina. I am considering the Wailea-Makena area for the first 3 nights on January 24th and check out on the 27th. I see on Priceline they have a 4* hotel listed on their express deals. Can soeone identify which hotel it might be? It lists similar hotels to $556 and has a price on my dates as $195. Rated 7.0 out of 10 (or higher). This hotel has free internet, indoor or outdoor pool, Restaurant, and fitness center. Does not seem too much to go on?Thanks for any help.
thereuare Posted October 24, 2012 Report Posted October 24, 2012 My guess for this PRICELINE Express Deal would be the Makena Beach and Golf Resort, but with so few amenities and this being a new product from PRICELINE, i can't be certain. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Let us know how it goes or if we can be of further help. chrispee Posted October 24, 2012 Report Posted October 24, 2012 Did you rule out adding 4* in kaanapali and going for the Westin Villas? I bid and won this hotel in December for $171 and would based my decision on being able to win this hotel or the Makena Beach and Golf resort at a similar price. I walked through the Westin Villas grounds/facilities last time I was in Maui, and it looks to be on par with the resort class hotels in the area. I haven't been in a room, but they look good in pictures as well. The Makena Beach and Golf Resort is in a nice location, but the facilities didn't look to be all that upscale to me when I did my research. Just my opinion though.
bwies1 Posted October 24, 2012 Author Report Posted October 24, 2012 I did book the Jan 24th to 27TH (3 nights) on Priceline's express deal and it was for the Makena Beach and Golf Resort. Thanks. Now I will give myself some time to find and bid on the 27th to 30th at Kanaapali as I have a back up hotel for those dates already. Hopefully as we get closer to those dates there will be some Resorts willing to drop their prices.I also will start looking into car rentals on those dates. Thanks again,bwies1
bwies1 Posted October 24, 2012 Author Report Posted October 24, 2012 Chrispee,Thanks for your reply. I did try one more time before buying the priceline express deal in Makena to bid on 4* or resort in kanaapali and went up to $220 this time. My bids were not accepted. My last bid was to add Wailea-Makena and bid $185 for 4* or Resort (Knowing I could buy the express deal at $195) but was not accepted at that price either. I hope as I get closer to my dates (we are still 3 months away) that maybe there will be some vacancies and I can get a good deal on a Resort or 4* at Kanaapali. If not I have the Ritz Carlton as a back up at better prices then what is showing for the Marriott or Westin or Hyatt properties at the moment. The only draw back might be that the Ritz Carlton is a little north of Lahaina.bwies1
