LilMiranda Posted September 22, 2012 Report Posted September 22, 2012 Hey, I will be going to Orlando, Florida from Saturday 11/10 to Wed 11/14. I have never been there, am not familiar with the area, and what the good locations or good hotels are. In general it seems like a pretty affordable time for nice hotels- so i'm wondering if it's a good idea to use priceline for this search. Any suggestions? Or is it better to just go with the other websites? Only thing we plan to do for sure is Gatorland (my sister is obsessed with alligators), and other than that we just want to explore Orlando. Would love a NICE hotel for a decent price.3 1/2* and up- is what i'm looking for. Price- under $125/night (I have seen a lot of hotels under that price, which is why I say it). Really need some help on areas to bid on and people's thoughts on renting a car.
thereuare Posted September 23, 2012 Report Posted September 23, 2012 Welcome to BetterBidding! Will you be attending the theme parks too (Disney, Universal, Epcott, etc) or only Gatorland is on the agenda and the rest is exploring other parts of Orlando? How many rooms do you need? Do any rooms need more than double occupancy? (if so how many adults/children in total?)Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases... and please click each of these links before replying.Thanks. LilMiranda Posted September 25, 2012 Author Report Posted September 25, 2012 Thanks for the reply. Well it's only 2 of us going (sister and I, both in our 20's). It's really only Gatorland on the agenda, but we have debated between visiting one of the universal or disneyland parks. We know we dont have a lot of dates, so dont want to spend every day at an amusement park. We only need 1 room.
thereuare Posted September 25, 2012 Report Posted September 25, 2012 Gatorland is not directly in any PRICELINE zone, but appears to be closest to SeaWorld-I-Drive, Downtown Disney-LBV, and Kissimmee... but you should look at the map to see which zones you think would work best for this and any other plans you have. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Let us know which zone(s) you decide are acceptable for this trip and we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow. mrgodai Posted September 25, 2012 Report Posted September 25, 2012 If you want something nice, you would really want to look at 4 stars and higher. Check HOTWIRE first to get an idea on how much the price is around the area then try to bid lower through PRICELINE.
LilMiranda Posted September 26, 2012 Author Report Posted September 26, 2012 Thanks for that initial advice, will definitely start doing more research. Any recommendations on areas from personal experience? We still havent decided if we will rent a car or not.
thereuare Posted September 26, 2012 Report Posted September 26, 2012 We still havent decided if we will rent a car or not.I think you're going to need a car as the Disney area is not that easy to get around without one unless all you intend on doing is going from your hotel directly to the parks. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. LilMiranda Posted October 28, 2012 Author Report Posted October 28, 2012 Hey, I took forever to start up my search again for an Orlando Hotel. So reviving this post again. I am looking for the following: Ratings: 4*+Price: I would prefer under $100 (but can go around $140)It will be 2 of us, trying to have a fun but relaxing vacation. Locations: Sea World-Idrive, universal-Idrive;, Downtown DisneyAny feedback on the following locations: Downtown Orlando or MCO? Should I try bid on this as well?
Romelle Posted October 28, 2012 Report Posted October 28, 2012 Have you found the lists of hotels yet? Right at the beginning of this Priceline - Florida and the Hotwire - Florida are lists of the hotels members have reported here as getting. You can get a pretty good idea of what you might receive. Also, at the very end of this site is the Hotel Review area. Lots of candid comments from members. Use the first post "Hotel Reviews by Letter" to jump to the "F"s for Florida, and then just scroll down to Orlando.I did take a peek at Hotwire for your dates. 4* LBV Downtown Disney at $91 (hotel) and $90 (condo). Lots of other possibilities too. You can link to HOTWIRE with the little box in the left hand corner above.I know one member suggested staying at the 4* or higher level. While I'd agree with that advice for Europe, I've stayed in lots of really nice US places that have less stars. You can research this by looking at the at the hotel lists and the reviews. Although in this case the 4* rates appear to be well within your budget. One can often do a little better with Priceline than Hotwire too. Not necessarily so, but often. The reviews might help you decide on which zones too. Romelle
LilMiranda Posted October 28, 2012 Author Report Posted October 28, 2012 Thanks Romelle! I will definitely look at that
thereuare Posted October 29, 2012 Report Posted October 29, 2012 Locations: Sea World-Idrive, universal-Idrive;, Downtown DisneyAny feedback on the following locations: Downtown Orlando or MCO? Should I try bid on this as well? Will you go to Disney and/or the theme parks at all? Besides Gatorland, have you decided upon any other attractions you intend on doing/visiting?Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. LilMiranda Posted October 29, 2012 Author Report Posted October 29, 2012 We won't be visiting the Disney parks (but will try to visit like the downtown Disney area). We are debating between sea world and discovery cove. But in terms of the Disney parks or universal, really don't want to spend on that. We know they are different from our l.a. Parks but we'll have to pass
thereuare Posted October 30, 2012 Report Posted October 30, 2012 Any interest in a Condo property?HOTWIRE has a 4* Condo in the LBV-Downtown Disney zone for $90/nite (your price may differ by a few dollars) that is 90% recommended by previous guests and has an excellent 4.5/5.0 TA review.Amenities are: Resort BR2 Kitchen Laundry (in room) Fitness Pool Restaurant 24hr Front Desk Hi-Speed Internet Free Parking Free Internet Spa Blind Accessible Deaf Accessible Travel Accessible Room Accessible Bathroom Accessible Handicapped Parking Roll-in Shower CondoAny interest in this property?
