thereuare Posted September 22, 2012 Report Posted September 22, 2012 Welcome to BetterBidding! If you haven't yet, please start by reading your messages. At current rates i'm not sure if $92 will be enough for a 4* hotel in either of these zones for these nites. To continue your current bidding:When bidding 4* in Las Vegas you have FOUR re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding. (NOTE: Summerlin is not one of them)Select 4* Strip North and Strip South...Bid $75, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $80, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $85, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $90, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $92Any questions feel free to ask. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes. Smitty00 Posted September 24, 2012 Author Report Posted September 24, 2012 Thank you for the response! I have used priceline for about 4-5 years religiously and have always had great luck with Hotel & rental car rates. My general strategy (before I found this forum) is to look at Hotwire for their cheapest rate and then reduce that by about $25 a night (for a Hotel) & $8-$10 a day (on cars) thru priceline and have done quite well with this strategy. I have noticed a 4* on the strip thru Hotwire for a rate of $107 a night for my dates requested. I have also noticed that I get better deals within 2 weeks of arrival on both Hotels & cars. P.S. I was rejected again this morning for $92 a night. I will keep you updated. Thanks!
AaronJB Posted September 24, 2012 Report Posted September 24, 2012 Thank you for keeping us updated and let us know if you have any questions. While waiting until the last minute does result in better deals at times, the opposite can occur if there's something going on on the date/s of travel, it's a busy period or other factors.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
Smitty00 Posted September 25, 2012 Author Report Posted September 25, 2012 Update, 5 attempts again this morning starting @ $88 a night, I went all the way up to $98 (a little more than I am willing to spend, but getting close to departure) and rejected.Should I try and book for all 3 nights at once or just 2 nights and add a day? Also, is it harder to get a deal booking 3 rooms instead of 1? (I generally am only booking 1)Thanks,
thereuare Posted September 25, 2012 Report Posted September 25, 2012 Should I try and book for all 3 nights at once or just 2 nights and add a day?I don't think this would work since there is only one 'cheap' nite (Sunday nite) so by trying to add a nite you'll end up overpaying for the extra nite (if you purchase Friday+Saturday and then try and add Sunday at the additional nite)... OR if you purchase Saturday and Sunday and then try to add Friday nite (hoping that PRICELINE gives you a counter-offer on adding the additional nite sine it will almost certainly cost more then your Saturday+Sunday nite bid) there is a very good chance you'll land a different hotel for Friday nite. Sorry if this is confusing but it's a little technical the way PRICELINE works, but suffice it to say i don't think it's a good idea unless you are willing to change hotels, at which point i would just do a 'normal' SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID (but this also raises the question if you'll save enough vs. simply buying the three nites together... for $5-$10/per person per nite it may not be worth packing up and changing hotels... you could get a 4* hotel for the complete stay for $115/nite so i would use that as your 'benchmark')Also, is it harder to get a deal booking 3 rooms instead of 1?It can be but i think the issue here is the rage change and that your budget is simply not enough for these three nites.Let us know your thoughts and we'll take it from there. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Smitty00 Posted September 26, 2012 Author Report Posted September 26, 2012 Thanks again for the response to me email! I will start bidding the full 3 night stay instead of 2 nights then. I have noticed on Hotwire that I can get a 4* (North strip area & South Strip) for $115 a night for my requested dates. I would assume that I could get a 4* for at least $8-$10 cheaper a night thru Priceline? I will keep you updated on my results. Thanks again,
Smitty00 Posted September 26, 2012 Author Report Posted September 26, 2012 Update, tried again starting @ $88 a night and up to $96 a night for Oct. 12-15 and rejected. I will continue to be persistent on my bidding and see what happens. Thanks,
thereuare Posted September 26, 2012 Report Posted September 26, 2012 I would assume that I could get a 4* for at least $8-$10 cheaper a night thru Priceline?Usually/likely... but sometimes when there is a major rate change PRICELINE is not as good as averaging the multiple rates as HOTWIRE, so it's possible that HOTWIRE could be your best deal in such a situation. I would continue bidding up to the HOTWIRE price, but don't be surprised if you ultimately need to pay the HOTWIRE rate. Thanks for using the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board. Smitty00 Posted September 27, 2012 Author Report Posted September 27, 2012 Update, Again I bid 5 times this morning (same amounts as yesterday) and the same result. (I think I am wearing them down ha-ha) Anyway, Hotwire price came down to $111.00 per night for a 4* Strip South area Resort/Hotel, so I feel the market might be coming back to me. I will keep you updated. P.S. Do any of you think that $111.00 is the Monte Carlo? I think that it is.
thereuare Posted September 27, 2012 Report Posted September 27, 2012 IF the HOTWIRE hotel is an option at this point in time please list the amenities associated with it and we'll have a look. The change in price from $115 to $111 is normal HOTWIRE fluctuation and not likely due to a change in demand/availability.Thanks for using the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board. Smitty00 Posted September 28, 2012 Author Report Posted September 28, 2012 Update, Tried same strategy again today, (starting bid $88 ending bid $94) same results. (denied) However, I know I am close as they sent me an offer to up my bid by $26 a night and it would be accepted. In the past I have just re-bid and raised my bid by $2-5 and landed the deal. With my departure 2 weeks from today I feel confident that I will stay within my budget of $88 to $94 a night.

Smitty00 Posted September 29, 2012 Author Report Posted September 29, 2012 Update, Tried again starting @ $88 up to $95 Denied.(was again offered to up my bid by $29 dollars a night @ $95 and I choose not to and will re-bid tomorrow)
thereuare Posted September 29, 2012 Report Posted September 29, 2012 The 'right price' at the moment is somewhere between $96-$118 so you would need a rate drop to be successful in the $88-$94 range you anticipate.. entirely possible in Vegas, but also possible it moves in the other direct. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Good luck on the next round of bidding. Romelle Posted September 30, 2012 Report Posted September 30, 2012 Are you keeping an eye on the rates right on the hotel web sites? Sometimes they have specials lower than one can achieve by bidding. You can link to quite a few of the hotels from "Las Vegas Checker" under the Tools menu above. There are other Las Vegas hotel links on the Support Page. Romelle
Smitty00 Posted October 1, 2012 Author Report Posted October 1, 2012 Thanks for your advice! I have still not landed my deal. Tried again yesterday starting @ $89 up to $95 and no deal. However, I feel confident that I will land 1 for less than $100 a night due to the Express deal prices I have seen and when I have bid $94 or more, I receive an offer to increase my bid by $29 and they will accept it.
Smitty00 Posted October 3, 2012 Author Report Posted October 3, 2012 Hello, I currently have a thread going on the Priceline side for my trip and noticed this deal on Hotwire this morning. Are you willing to pay this much at this time since you're keeping your bidding and are confident that you'll succeed at less than $100/nite?Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.
