First of, hello everyone! I am new to the forum and new to Priceline. I'm looking for a 4* hotel in the Empire State Building area, travel dates 11/28-12/01 (3 nights).

Any of the above hotels in this zone would be great for me.

I had a look over at HOTWIRE and identified their cheapest 4* ESB hotel at $234+ (+ meas +taxes) as St. Giles The Court. It makes sense, as it is also the one which has the lowest regular rate during the period (followed by The Strand, Morgans and The Roger).

My goal is to get any one of the 4* hotels listed at a better price than $234+. I understand the idea of multiple bidding zones to skip the 24 hours wait time. Should I just start bidding at lets say $160? I have NEVER done this before and do not want to make a mistake.

Thanks for your time and input!

Edit: MTE would also be of interest, but I'd like to avoid the Hilton & Grand Hyatt (bad reviews)

Welcome to Betterbidding.

You are not being ignored and have given no wrong information.

The issue with an example like MTE is that if you do not want a particular hotel or hotels then it's best to avoid the zone altogether, as there is no way to avoid a particular property or properties when using PRICELINE. Or, the other option would be to use HOTWIRE, as you can see if the service is offering a hotel in MTE that is of interest.

The St Giles the Court has not yet been reported to the board on PRICELINE, but looking at the retail side of the service now, it appears to have been downgraded recently to a 3* on PRICELINE, so while it is a 4* on HOTWIRE, unfortunately that does not reflect what a 4* may take on PRICELINE for these dates. Ratings can often vary between the two services and things can change at any time - new hotels can be reported or hotels can change star ratings.

Additionally, these date/s are really part of "prime time" in NYC - it's really the biggest period of "holiday shopping and festivities" stays and rates are (at least traditionally) quite high. What would be your desired max budget per night for this stay? Given the popularity of the period from around 11/25-12/15, I'd start making attempts now.

Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.

Thanks for your reply Aaron!

I'm happy with $234 St. Giles @ HOTWIRE, just wanting to score a better price with PRICELINE. I'll see tomorrow what I can get. If I can score for Strand, Morgan or Roger for under $234 that'll be good, otherwise I might consider taking HOTWIRE.

Will post any reject/accept tomorrow!

Note that the St. Giles The Court has not been reported to the board since they changed ownership from the W Hotel a few years ago, so if this is the best deal at this time, it may not be available thru PRICELINE.

Thanks.

You have bid too high, imo...

HOTWIRE has a 4* hotel in the ESB zone for $235/nite with Restaurant, Fitness, Hi-Speed Internet, Free Internet, Businss

Best guess for this property is the St. Giles the Court (it has been reported to the board thru HOTWIRE, but not PRICELINE) and would be cheaper than you have already bid... does this property work for your needs?

Thanks.
