I think 175 is kinda steep after doing more research on Kayak. I'm thinking I can push for 150 max. What are your thoughts? And Go blue!
AaronJB Posted September 18, 2012 Report Posted September 18, 2012 Just to confirm, did you hit $175 when bidding and get denied or is that your max bid?Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.

But I'm assuming going in btw at 175 would win the bid but think I may be able to get a lower bid accepted if I waited until the last minute.
AaronJB Posted September 18, 2012 Report Posted September 18, 2012 Given that 9/21 is only a few days a way, this is pretty much "last minute" in booking terms. If you wait until the last minute, you'll also have less attempts to bid to try to see what it will take. If you got a counter-offer of $200 at $150, the required bid is somewhere in-between, so I'd start now and slowly progress higher by $5's - $155, $160, etc) rather than waiting until the last minute.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.

AaronJB Posted September 18, 2012 Report Posted September 18, 2012 If you got a counter-offer to $200, that means that if you jump to $200 right now, then you'll get it. However, the actual REQUIRED price is almost certainly less - somewhere between your last failed bid ($150) and the counter-offer ($200). I'd continue moving higher by $5's - $155, $160, etc in an attempt to see what the required price point is between $150 and $200.Pricing is entirely on a case-by-case basis. While Times Square is generally the most expensive zone and Downtown is generally less expensive due to distance from Midtown, there is otherwise no "standard" pricing in terms of most expensive to least.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
droopy57 Posted September 18, 2012 Author Report Posted September 18, 2012 If I try again at a lower price lIke 125 is it possible to get a hotel in the 150 range?
AaronJB Posted September 19, 2012 Report Posted September 19, 2012 If you are being denied at $150 now, then there is currently no inventory at that price point and it's going to require a higher bid - if you are getting a counter offer of $200, the required price now is somewhere between your last failed bid and $200.In terms of getting a lower price (new inventory opening up at lower price levels) between now and your stay, it's highly unlikely. With only a couple days left, this is essentially "very last minute". Additionally, if you try waiting until the absolute last minute, you're not going to have many re-bids available.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
