3*+ in central Manhattan there seem to be a lot of zones in that area, having never been to NY i am open to suggestions.

We really need to have some sense of your budget to know what might be possible/realistic for your trip. These dates include the NYC Marathon which historically is one of the busiest single date events in the city and rates will likely be very high.

The NYC Marathon is on November 4, you are coming at one of the most expensive single weekends of the year. Your budget is not realistic for a 3*, probably not enough for 2*.

Unfortunately, $100-120 is not going to be realistic for this time period. I'd start at $150, but it may take up towards the $175-200 range for a 3*, given the Marathon during this period. Downtown-Soho may take a bit less - is anywhere in Manhattan acceptable?
