Ktpehl Posted August 26, 2012 Report Posted August 26, 2012 Looking for a 3* or higher, would like to spend $150 or less before taxes Open to any location in Manhattan, would also consider a location outside of Manhattan that has easy/fast subway access to Manhattan--open to suggestionsWe already booked a hotel through Priceline for Sun 9/30 in the Madison Sq Garden area

thereuare Posted August 27, 2012 Report Posted August 27, 2012 Based upon current rates at the moment $150 does not seem likely for a centrally located 3* or better... your best chance at something within Manhattan would be in the 'Downtown' zone OR you can try bidding for a zone outside of the city and commuting in (but even this may be though at the 3* level and a $150 maximum bid).Did you want to try for Downtown first before looking outside of the city OR is the goal the least expensive hotel whether inside/outside of the city? If venturing outside of the city which area(s) are acceptable? For bidding inside the city, which zone(s) are acceptable, as even if your budget is not likely enough for a Manhattan hotel, we can still use those zones in order to gain extra bidding opportunities.Let us know your thoughts and we'll take it from there. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Ktpehl Posted August 28, 2012 Author Report Posted August 28, 2012 My preference would be to stay in Manhattan, but I realize that is unlikely for what I am looking to spend. I would rather spend a little more and stay in Manhattan vs outside of the city. I am not all that familiar with areas outside of the city, so am open to any area that is an easy subway ride away from Manhattan.
thereuare Posted August 28, 2012 Report Posted August 28, 2012 Did you want to try for Manhattan first? If you also include Downtown in your bidding i think you would improve your chances if you're able to raise your maximum bid for a 3* to $165-$185, but don't know if you're flexible in that regard. The advantage of Downtown is that you're already in Manhattan and it's easy to take a taxi home late at nite vs. staying outside of the city... the downside is that although a subway station will likely be nearby, it's about a 20-25 minute trip to midtown when your activities for the day take you in that direction. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Let us know your thoughts and we'll take it from there. Ktpehl Posted August 28, 2012 Author Report Posted August 28, 2012 I think that sounds reasonable, if the difference is only a small amount I would prefer to stay in Manhattan. Like I said, flexible as far as locations in Manhattan. I would be willing to stay out of town if its a significant savings ($30+/night)
thereuare Posted August 29, 2012 Report Posted August 29, 2012 I think that sounds reasonable...Which part? What is it that you want to try first? Ktpehl Posted August 29, 2012 Author Report Posted August 29, 2012 Do u think 180 would be reasonable for a 3* im Manhattan? That would be my max there-and where I would prefer to stay-any location except lower east side would be ok. $150 max for outside of Manhattan.
thereuare Posted August 29, 2012 Report Posted August 29, 2012 To avoid any confusion, please list the zones you are willing to accept (rather than the ones you won't) and we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Ktpehl Posted September 11, 2012 Author Report Posted September 11, 2012 Spent a lot of time bidding. I wonder if I should have waited until closer to my trip, but am ultimately happy with this win considering I saw nothing less than $205 on any other site including Hotwire.
Ktpehl Posted September 11, 2012 Author Report Posted September 11, 2012 Posted my win as a seperate topic. Ended up winning a 3* at the Courtyard New York Fifth Ave for $166/night.I wonder if waiting until closer to my trip would have helped, but ultimately I am happy with the win. Many of the reviews comment on how good the location of the hotel is. Looking forward to the trip!
