annie42 Posted September 7, 2012 Report Posted September 7, 2012 Hi there -- we are a couple travelling to NYC October 25 to October 31. Will we have trouble getting five nights through Priceline and does a longer stay mean we are likely to get a lesser hotel (we are looking at 4 star)? Also, when is the best time for us to bid -- we are now six weeks away from departure so not sure when is optimal time to book. And -- finally -- what should the starting bid be for a 4 star hotel at that time of year? This is the first time I've posted here so please let me know if you can help. Thanks
annie42 Posted September 8, 2012 Author Report Posted September 8, 2012 Just wondering what price we would have to pay for a 4* hotel in New York through Priceline during this period. ANd also are we best to book at the last minute (like days before) or two weeks out. We have already got accommodation for four nights at the Hilton (Oct 22 to 25) and just need to book a hotel for the second part of the trip. Advice anyone?
thereuare Posted September 8, 2012 Report Posted September 8, 2012 Please keep all posts for the same stay in the same thread.we are a couple travelling to NYC October 25 to October 31. Will we have trouble getting five nights...Do you mean seven nites OR are the dates incorrect?...does a longer stay mean we are likely to get a lesser hotel (we are looking at 4 star)? If you only bid 4* then you will receive a 4* hotel (as rated by PRICELINE), but sometimes a longer stay can be a bit more difficult since a hotel must have discounted inventory available for the entire length of your stay. Also, when is the best time for us to bid...See the related 'Bid Early or Close to Check-in' link in our PRICELINE FAQ.And -- finally -- what should the starting bid be for a 4 star hotel at that time of year?Which zone(s) are you willing to accept? What is your maximum bid for this leg of your trip?We have already got accommodation for four nights at the Hilton (Oct 22 to 25) and just need to book a hotel for the second part of the trip. How did you book the Hilton? If it was thru PRICELINE or HOTWIRE please share the win with the board (as a NEW TOPIC) so that others will be aware of and can benefit from this purchase when searching the topic titles on the board and in the Priceline and Hotwire Calendar of Wins and Priceline Maps. If you booked direct, what was the rate per nite and is this refundable? (in case adding nites to the stay you're currently seeking can bring down the average cost per nite)Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. annie42 Posted September 11, 2012 Author Report Posted September 11, 2012 I made a mistake. It's now just four nights. Oct 26 to Oct 29.We are flexible on zones, Soho would be our preference. We would pay $200 a night. Will that do it?I think we'll do as you suggest and book a refundable hotel just in case. We got the Hilton deal through Hilton as my husband is a member. It's a timeshare thing.
thereuare Posted September 11, 2012 Report Posted September 11, 2012 It's now just four nights. Oct 26 to Oct 29.This would be THREE nites... is your check-out date 10/30?We are flexible on zones, Soho would be our preference. Are you willing to pay more to stay in the Soho zone vs. any other zones OR is your goal the least expensive 4* hotel in any acceptable zones? If the latter, what other zones are acceptable? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases... please click each of these links before replying.Thanks. annie42 Posted September 11, 2012 Author Report Posted September 11, 2012 This would be THREE nites... is your check-out date 10/30?Excuse me, yes check out would be 30/10.Are you willing to pay more to stay in the Soho zone vs. any other zones OR is your goal the least expensive 4* hotel in any acceptable zones? If the latter, what other zones are acceptable?Yes we would pay $250 and are flexible with zones. We would like to stay further away from centre as we will have already been at the HIlton so would like a change. I have no idea how busy it will be around that time.
thereuare Posted September 11, 2012 Report Posted September 11, 2012 Yes we would pay $250 and are flexible with zones. This isn't really clear... did you want to bid for only Soho up to $250/nite before you consider lowering your star rating and/or including other zones... OR is your goal the least expensive 4* or better hotel in any of your acceptable zones? Please confirm and we'll advise accordingly. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. annie42 Posted September 18, 2012 Author Report Posted September 18, 2012 excuse my late response. I'm still not sure. First , our dates are October 26 to October 30 -- so four nights. Soho would be great but I keep seeing these wins at the Waldorf Astoria. What's the chances? SHould I put in Soho and Midtown East? TO be honest, we would be happy with a 4 star in either of these places. And also, to be clear, we wanted to pay $250 total, including taxes etc. Can you please tell me best strategy? As we already have our first four days booked, we can wait until the last minute if you think that is best strategy and book somewhere refundable as a back up. What do you suggest? Thanks for the advice.
thereuare Posted September 18, 2012 Report Posted September 18, 2012 Soho would be great but I keep seeing these wins at the Waldorf Astoria. What's the chances?Any time you hope for, or expect, a specific property you're setting yourself up for disappointment. However, with your budget at $250 all-in, this is equivalent to ~$215/nite bid price, which is hardly a sure thing for these dates, so i would include as many zones as are acceptable to increase your chances and give the greatest number of hotels the opportunity to accept your bid price.Let us know what you decide regarding zones and we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases... and please click each of these links before replying.Thanks. annie42 Posted September 19, 2012 Author Report Posted September 19, 2012 Ok how about MTE, MTW and Soho. Will that be enough or should we include more? Also, can I just put my bids in the normal way (ie waiting a day to rebid) or should I do it the way you've suggested? Plus book something in reserve just in case. Thanks
annie42 Posted September 20, 2012 Author Report Posted September 20, 2012 Hi there,Yes we would bid maximum $215 a night and we are very flexible with zones. We are staying midtown for the first four days. So we would happily stay MTE, MTW, DT and Chelsea. Can you assist me now with how I should proceed?THanks
