Priceline Hotel: Manhattan 9/5 - 9/12 SoHo / TriBeCa / Chelsea

Hi everyone,

this is my first time trying to bid through priceline.

Since I stay for 7 nights in Manhattan I've already booked another hotel (which can be cancelled) at a rate ~300 USD/night but would like to go somewhere around 180-250 USD.

I need 1 room (1 person) from 9/5 - 9/12 in a minimum 3 star hotel.

Acceptable zones are Chelsea, SoHo/TriBeCa. If it will be almost impossible to get sth. in these zones, I could imagine booking in Hell's Kitchen or Midtown East as well.

Unfortunately, a week-long stay may be difficult during a busy period and given HOTWIRE/regular rates, you may have to head higher towards your max - I'd continue going higher by $5's from your last rejected bid - $195, $200, etc - and my guess is that a 3* win for these dates in the Soho/Chelsea areas may take $215-235. Splitting your stay may be helpful in this case - would splitting your stay between two properties be acceptable?

Note that 9/6 seems to be a particularly busy night at many Manhattan hotels, possibly due to the Madonna concert. If you don't mind moving hotels during your trip, you may do better if you bid for the stay starting 9/7 separately from the first couple days.

Edited to add: the weekend after that looks pretty bad too, so what I said above may not be perfect advice. Splitting up your stay may help your chances, though.

Splitting up my stay isn't really an option for me since I'll be in the city for vacation and changing hotels would end up in too much stress I guess...

I've bid as high as 225 USD for these areas now and still no win...

Where is your back-up reservation? Is it still fully refundable/cancelable?

With your stay just one day away, and your back-up reservation at $300/nite, how much are you willing to bid? Which zone(s) are acceptable (given that you may expand beyond just Chelsea and Soho given how close your dates are and still no success)
