rhrbcf Posted September 2, 2012 Report Posted September 2, 2012 Would like to bid for room on Priceline but have 2 teens and concerned that Hotel will not have Doublebeds or allow 2 kids in room with some kind of sleeping arrangements. Pretty flexible on location but prefernear Central Park / Times Square area and 4* at or below $225 night.
AaronJB Posted September 2, 2012 Report Posted September 2, 2012 Welcome to Betterbidding. The issue with PRICELINE and NYC in particular is that NYC (even at high-end properties) rooms are smaller or much smaller than normal, and rooms may be small to the point where a rollaway won't fit - or hotels often charge a premium for rooms with more than one bed. There have been instances of users being denied when asking to upgrade at some properties or even offering to pay to do so. Overall, there's definitely a high risk when using PRICELINE and NYC in terms of not getting two beds. HOTWIRE is a better option, as you can search for the amount of people in the room and guarantee some sort of bedding for the entire party (commonly 2 beds, but can be 1 + sofa or other combo.)Are you seeing any listings of interest on HOTWIRE for these dates? If so, please provide the full details (complete list of amenities, star rating, zone and price before taxes/fees)Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
rhrbcf Posted September 2, 2012 Author Report Posted September 2, 2012 Yes, I see rooms are going for about $180-200 and probably need to bid on two rooms which will be about the same price as HOTWIRE or PRICELINE standard for 1 room.
littledog1 Posted September 2, 2012 Report Posted September 2, 2012 HOTWIRE has chelsea madison square garden area hotel 4 star for 3 persons at 256.00 for that period that i am considering. I did not determine if the same listing would come up for 4 persons
AaronJB Posted September 2, 2012 Report Posted September 2, 2012 Which zones exactly would be acceptable? Unfortunately, $225 for a 4* in Midtown is going to be unrealistic for these dates in terms of guaranteeing some sort of bedding for four.A few varied thoughts:* You can take a risk with bidding, and while bidding up to $225 for a 4* in Midtown zones is worth trying, I think it may take more along the lines of $240-260. Let us know which zones are acceptable.* When searching for 2 adults on HOTWIRE, what appears to be the Roger Williams is showing for $229, but that hotel charges $20 a night in fees. This property has not yet been reported to the board on PRICELINE.* In terms of searching for 2a/2c on HOTWIRE for these dates, there isn't much showing - the handful of results in Midtown include what appears to be a possible match for the Intercontinental TS for $373.* The St Giles the Court (formerly a W property) has an executive junior suite for $356 non-refundable on sale on Expedia. It notes 1 King and 650 sq ft. It does say some rooms have sofa beds, so it would be a matter of trying to contact the hotel and making sure you have a room with a sofa bed or at the very least a rollaway if the hotel offers them. Still, this would be a larger junior suite.Let us know if any of the above options would be of interest or if you need assistance with a HOTWIRE listing. If you need assistance with a particular HOTWIRE listing, please provide the complete list of amenities showing with the listing, as well as zone, star rating and price before taxes/fees.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE, PRICELINE or Expedia links to start your purchases and searches.
rhrbcf Posted September 3, 2012 Author Report Posted September 3, 2012 Thanks for all your help! I will let you know how things work out. I did notice that winning bids from Priceline are showing up in the 170-200 range but it does not disclose travel dates.
AaronJB Posted September 3, 2012 Report Posted September 3, 2012 Happy to help - please do let us know if you have any questions at all. In terms of PRICELINE and winning bids, if you are referring to the email alerts that PRICELINE sends out, those are not date specific and as a result, may not reflect what it may take for your particular dates.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.

rhrbcf Posted September 11, 2012 Author Report Posted September 11, 2012 Also, seems like you can book with request for 2 additional kids in room since it pops up after inputting that info although i have not gone through the process.
rhrbcf Posted September 11, 2012 Author Report Posted September 11, 2012 Found a thread that mentioned :My guess would be a new amenity set for the Millennium Hilton.

AaronJB Posted September 13, 2012 Report Posted September 13, 2012 Two rooms on PRICELINE are going to cost more than one room on HOTWIRE, although the specifics are going to depend on star rating and zone. Are you still seeing the above listing on HOTWIRE when searching for 2a/2c? I'm not seeing a 4* for that rate in Downtown/Soho - the 4*'s for these dates when I search for 2a are in the high $200's or over $300 for these dates.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
