im having a hard times securing a bid for around 9/20 - 9/27 ive been very flexible on the days. im going for 3 1/2 stars and gone as high as $56 a night. am i trying way to low? i thought this was kinda the offseason. ive had great success prior years around this time. not sure if i should wait til im closer to the date to bid more.

i havent seen too many people here posting bids on september that much.

If you have bid up to $55 and $55 is your max, unfortunately it's a matter of either bidding higher, trying for a lower star level or waiting it out to see if new inventory comes online (although there's a risk it will not and that rates will go higher.) What dates did you bid for? 9/20-27 or part/s of that time period (if so, which?)

Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.

The rates on Hotwire for your dates are very flat when looked at day-by-day. The 3.5*s in your general area started at either $74 or $77. The 4*s started between $77 and $84. So that isn't a reason for splitting your bid, but you still might consider it if you are willing to change hotels mid-visit. When bidding a span of days like a a week, in order to be successful you need to find a particular hotel available for all seven days. By trying combinations of 3/4 and 4/3 or even 2/5 and 5/2.

I've read of lots of "sticker shock" this year for hotels. In lots of cities. Business has picked up. As AaronJB mentioned, it might just take higher bids.

If you haven't already done so, you might check that "My Rewards" area on Priceline. Sometimes one finds something like an extra $5 per day to add to one's bid. No discernible logic as to when it might happen.

Also, if you have one of those Entertainment Books, it has a coupon good for a little bit added to one's bid.

yes i have tried splitting bids also. 4-3, 5-2, 3-4 yes i have the Entertainment Coupon rewards in my account also.

i also signed up for the priceline alerts to where you set a price for a area and they email when someone has won at that price. i did it for $50 a night 3 1/2 stars in anaheim grove area and have gotten several emails that people have one recently. of course it doesnt tell you the dates that they won it for <_<

of the last 2 years ive used priceline to bid in that area i don't think ive paid more then $55 a night. thats why i didnt want to go higher then that. although it's not really a big deal. i will go higher if i need to. i just like the fun in negoitating a good price lol

I'm also trying for late Sept and have bid up to $65 with no luck. My dates are 9/29 - 10/2. Like you, we've gone this time of year for the last few years and get 45 - 55/night. I guess business really has picked up :(

I did start my own own topic on my bid. I wasn't asking anyone for advice in my reply, but simply offering a statement of my experience which I felt was relevant to the topic of the OP. I know the rules and was not making an attempt to deflect from the OP.
