Fergus69 Posted August 27, 2012 Report Posted August 27, 2012 I'm looking for a room for Sept 20-22. I'm really priced out of downtown. Looking for something around $50-60 a night. What suburbs do you recommend without a car? Or is near an airport better? Only real plan is to go to the Art Institute on that Friday. I'm flying into Midway.Never used PRICELINE only HOTWIRE. Thanks!

(since this is over your previously stated target budget)While waiting for AaronJB's reply, please read your messages if you haven't done so already.Thanks. Fergus69 Posted August 28, 2012 Author Report Posted August 28, 2012 Yes, up to $77. I just read the message.Hotwire now lists this 2** South Chicago-Hyde Park area hotel as $77.Amenities: Pool(s), Restaurant(s), High-Speed Internet Access, Free Parking (which I don't need)Thanks
AaronJB Posted August 29, 2012 Report Posted August 29, 2012 This would likely be a new amenity set for the Ramada Lakeshore (there is a 2.5/5 tripadvisor rating on the detail page) - not something I'd recommend. I'd rather recommend looking at MDW airport and then taking the Orange Line "L" in.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
Fergus69 Posted August 29, 2012 Author Report Posted August 29, 2012 Thanks. I was thinking that might be a better option. I'll post when I figure out what I'm doing.

Fergus69 Posted August 31, 2012 Author Report Posted August 31, 2012 New to Priceline need advice. Love to find something under $90. Thanks
AaronJB Posted September 1, 2012 Report Posted September 1, 2012 Please keep all discussion of this stay within this thread. Unfortunately, even a 2.5* for these dates will likely be expensive downtown, and probably at least moderately over $100 (possibly $115-130.) I see a 3* on HOTWIRE under the McCormick Place zone on HOTWIRE for $88 w/Boutique, Restaurant, Fitness, Smoke Free, Free Internet, Hi-Speed Internet, Business, Free Parking, Blind Accessible, Travel Accessible, Room Accessible, Bathroom Accessible, Handicapped Parking, Roll-in Shower. My guess for that is the South Loop hotel, which is still not a great option - there's not a lot around that area, but it would be a better option than the 2* South Chicago listing mentioned earlier in this thread. This property does get mostly pretty good reviews (4/5 tripadvisor) - it's still a trek downtown, although better than either Midway or the Hyde Park listing above.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.

AaronJB Posted September 1, 2012 Report Posted September 1, 2012 The only 2.5*'s in the River North-NMA area that have been reported are the Holiday Inn Express Cass (a fairly decently reviewed) and Tremont (a smaller, older property in a fantastic location); there may be others not yet reported. There are 2.5*'s in the MP-Loop-GP, but none have been reported. Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
Fergus69 Posted September 4, 2012 Author Report Posted September 4, 2012 Since the River North-NMA area prices have really shot up, I booked at room at the South Loop Hotel, which should be Ok for my stay at $99 a night on the website. If I find something better I may jump at it.

Fergus69 Posted September 5, 2012 Author Report Posted September 5, 2012 I just went ahead and book this on HOTWIRE for $149 a night for 2 nights (see above) It turned out to be the Chicago's Essex Inn. I think I'll be happier with this location.
AaronJB Posted September 5, 2012 Report Posted September 5, 2012 Congrats on your success.Nice deal for this property and it is definitely an improvement in location - thank you for letting us know about the change in amenity set so that we can update the site's Hotwire Hotel List. This property is certainly a nice walk to the museum campus - Walk East to the Lake, then along the lakefront the remaining distance.Thank you for sharing your win and please use the site's PRICELINE or HOTWIRE links to start your purchases and searches.Enjoy your stay.
