Welcome to Betterbidding. :)

Chicago Marathon is 10/7, and unfortunately this is one of the worst periods of the year (traditionally.)

Are you looking for a room for these dates? If so, what would be your desired budget per night? Are you flying/driving in?

Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.

Yes, I was looking for a room for that weekend. That would explain the high $$$. I am flying. I am coming to check out Chicago as a potential new home for me. I would like to stay downtown or the magnificent mile or any other touristy area. I would to pay no more than $200 per night.

The problem is not 10/5-6 (which is expensive, but around $200 is possible), but 10/6-7, with Expedia showing absolutely nothing available downtown or in neighborhoods. The suburbs are significantly cheaper for these dates (I'm guessing you could get a 3.5* in the North Burbs for around $50), but it's difficult to get around the North Burbs without driving (the hotels are within an easy drive from a train, but it's not walkable - some hotels offer shuttle service to the trains, but it's not possible to specify one when using PRICELINE) and it's about a 35-42 minute train ride from downtown.

In terms of living in the city, definitely don't live right in a nightlife-heavy area - too much street noise at all hours of the night. I'd be very happy to offer any suggestions or answer any questions about the city.

Suggestions (based upon options currently available)

- Stay by the airport both nights

- Stay by the airport the second night, downtown the first night.

- Stay in the North suburbs one or both nights.

- Book a refundable/regular rate hotel in the 'burbs or by the airport and wait to see if anything downtown opens up closer to the dates.
