CNB12 Posted August 27, 2012 Author Report Posted August 27, 2012 I did tried to bid for $120, but I have been rejected, I even tried for $200, it didn't work either.Last night, I tried out on my own, because I don't know there's a helping website like this, and I won the bid of Fairfield Inn Ny Manhattan/Times Square from Sep 3 to Sep 4 for $80 before tax, why can't I get a similar deal in the same area for Aug 31 to Sep 3 (3 nights)? Why sometimes the 2 1/2* hotel(the given regular price) is more expensive than 3* hotel?
thereuare Posted August 28, 2012 Report Posted August 28, 2012 Last night... I won the bid of Fairfield Inn Ny Manhattan/Times Square from Sep 3 to Sep 4 for $80 before tax...Please post this win to the board as a NEW TOPIC so that others will be aware of, and can benefit from the information, when searching the topic titles on the board and in the Priceline and Hotwire Calendar of Wins and our Priceline Maps....why can't I get a similar deal in the same area for Aug 31 to Sep 3 (3 nights)?Rates are date specific. If you check hotel direct rates at the Fairfield Inn Times Square for the date you won, hotel direct rates are currently $199/nite... for the dates you still need they are over $350+ per nite. The higher retail rate for the remaining nites is indicative of higher demand at this (and likely most) property and therefore the hotel doesn't have as much of a need to discount as deeply in order to fill vacant rooms (as they have fewer, if any, rooms that they don't expect to sell themselves at full price)Why sometimes the 2 1/2* hotel(the given regular price) is more expensive than 3* hotel? Each hotel sets their own rates based upon their own supply/demand factors. For example, the US Open takes place during your dates and a 2.5* hotel maybe the first hotel listed as a 'partner' on the US Open website, this hotel may have strong bookings simply from being promoted and the first hotel listed as a partner to the Open... vs. a small, independent, 3* rated hotel which is not as well known. In a situation such as this (which is just one example of many plausible explanations) the 3* hotel could be priced less than the 2.5* property. When you bid $200, was that for a 3* rated property? Did you include any other zones besides Times Square? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. CNB12 Posted August 28, 2012 Author Report Posted August 28, 2012 Yes, I bid $200 for a 3* hotel , I included Times Square - Theatre District, Central Park South, Empire State Building Area, Madison Square Garden - Convention Area, Midtown East,Midtown West.Thank you.
CNB12 Posted August 28, 2012 Author Report Posted August 28, 2012 Now I am looking for a 3* or 4* hotel from Aug 31 to Sep 2 near Times Square(Times Square - Theatre District, Central Park South, Empire State Building Area, Madison Square Garden - Convention Area, Midtown East,Midtown West). My budget is within $120/night. Will it be possible? Any suggestions for bidding on priceline?
thereuare Posted August 28, 2012 Report Posted August 28, 2012 Your previous priceline win is for 9/3... do you need the nite of 9/2 for this stay or is 9/2 your check-out date?Unfortunately i don't think your $120 budget is realistic for these remaining nites. As the example in my previous post indicates, rates for the hotel you won for the other nite jumps from $199 to $350+ for these remaining dates, and while this just one hotel, it is fairly indicative of how strong demand is for 8/31-9/2 (or 9/3 as the case may be)If you want to give it a try you can do so as follows:At the 3* level you have ONE re-bid zone. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.Select 3* TS, CPS, ESB...Bid $85, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $90, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3* MSG, MTE, MTW...Bid $85, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $90, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3* MSG, CPS, ESB...Bid $95, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $100, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3* TS, MTE, MTW...Bid $95, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $100, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3* TS, MTE, ESB...Bid $105, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $110, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3* MSG, CPS, MTW...Bid $105, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $110, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3* TS, CPS, MTW...Bid $113, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $115, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3* MSG, MTE, ESB...Bid $113, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $115, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3* TS, CPS, MTW, MSG, MTE, ESB...Bid $118, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $120Any questions feel free to ask. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes. CNB12 Posted August 28, 2012 Author Report Posted August 28, 2012 9/2 is my check-out date, I forgot to mention that I won another bid of a 3 1/2* hotel (Affinia Manhattan) for that night for $110, I will post it as a new topic later.Thank you for your advice, I have followed your instruction, no luck, I have been rejected. What could I do now if I don't want to increase my budget? Do you think it will be easier if I split up my stay?
thereuare Posted August 29, 2012 Report Posted August 29, 2012 What could I do now if I don't want to increase my budget? Do you think it will be easier if I split up my stay?Your options are:1) wait it out and try again2) lower your star rating3) SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID4) include other areasHowever, i do think SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID will help as Friday nite does not appear to be the issue, rates are low for Friday and you have a chance at winning a hotel within your budget. However, for Saturday nite rates are quite high and i think you're going to have a difficult time finding anything within Manhattan near your $120 budget.Let us know how you'd like to proceed and we'll take it from there. CNB12 Posted August 29, 2012 Author Report Posted August 29, 2012 Thank you for your advice, since I won a Priceline bid for Friday, I now only need to bid for Saturday night. Do you mean that I can't even get a 2* hotel within my budget in midtown? If I want to wait, when will be the best time to bid again? Will the rate get even higher if I wait?
thereuare Posted August 29, 2012 Report Posted August 29, 2012 Yes, at current rates i think $120 or less for the nite of 9/1 will be difficult anywhere in Manhattan for a 2* or better hotel.Nobody can say if rates will come down, or move higher, over the next few days, but you are only 3-4 days from check-in so i would be bidding daily in hopes of catching some hotel that drops its rate at the last minute. See the related 'Bid Early or Close to Check-in' link in our PRICELINE FAQ for a further discussion on when to bid. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Good luck! CNB12 Posted August 30, 2012 Author Report Posted August 30, 2012 I didn't get anything today, even when I used the $7 cash reward and increases my bedget to $140. I will try again tomorrow. Thank you.

CNB12 Posted August 31, 2012 Author Report Posted August 31, 2012 I gave up bidding and chose the cheapest offer on priceline instead. It's so expensive!
AaronJB Posted August 31, 2012 Report Posted August 31, 2012 Did you bid on PRICELINE or take an offer on the retail side of the service? What hotel did you get? (name/star rating/price/zone)Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
