First bid at four star $140 in Millenium Park area was accepted. I was offered the option of extending my stay, which I attempted to do, but my attempt was rejected. I was told that other agents and booking companies had access to these rooms, so I guess the W Hotel rooms for Labour Day weekend are done.

I attempted to bid for 9/01 to 9/02 separately in the same area at $150. My bid was rejected.

Congrats on your success. :)

Very nice deal for this W property, which was given a massive revamp a couple of years ago. It's now a very, very different looking property than it was previously in terms of the rooms (this article doesn't give the full effect of how different the hotel looks, but it gives an idea: http://www.hotelchatter.com/story/2009/12/30/14319/014/hotels/Best_Hotel_Renovation%3A_The_W_Chicago_City_Center)

Thank you for sharing your win and please use the site's PRICELINE or HOTWIRE links to start your purchases and searches.

Enjoy your stay.

regarding the "offer to stay an extra night" option...I was not aware that this option was offered if not available. Is that true? Part of my bidding strategy has been to just bid for one night, (In the event I want a diffent hotel for another night) and add the additional night at the same accepted price if I like the hotel. I have always been happy with the hotel in Chicago, so this has worked great, but, after reading your post, am wondering if I could be taking big chances at not getting the hotel for another night?

As and FYI, we used the PRICELINE link here, and were able to get two rooms (with additional night option for both) at the Fairmont last weekend which was Air Show weekend. Our bid for $120 was accepted after a few attempts. Don't rule out the Loop/Millenium Park area. We really liked the location.

Yes, this is a risk. The hotel you win for the first nite may be sold-out or very expensive for the additional nite you need. As well, PRICELINE doesn't know if you'll try to add the nite before OR the nite after your original purchase, and rates for one of those nites may be inline with your original purchase but the other nite may be sold-out or much more expensive.

Thanks for using the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your purchases... it would also be appreciated if you began to share all your wins with the board so that others can benefit from the information, just as you have been helped by those who have posted before you. ;)

Thank you, Aaron, for that info. I'll have a look :)

And thanks for adding your experience as well at the Air Show thing. Much appreciated. Very often it's the luck of the draw.

Also, this thing with the won hotel offering me a hotel at the same price and then rejecting it once I've agreed has happened to me more than once, so the bidding tactic is valid but don't count on it necessarily coming through.
