Priceline Hotel: Are NYC hotels much higher around 9/11?

Experienced Priceline and Hotwire buyer/bidder and trying to book 3 nights 9/10 - 9/13. Cannot figure out why rooms are crazy high at this time post labor day.

NYC hotels are more expensive (and at times extremely expensive) throughout much of the Fall and first half of the Winter, up until around 12/15.

What would be your desired budget per night, as well as desired star rating and acceptable zones?

September is the UN General Council, Fashion Week, 9-11 ceremonies, just to mention a few. Most travel guides put September and early December as THE most expensive NYC hotel times.
