I just completed a one-night stay at the Wingate Inn in Hillsboro. Winning bid was for $57.00 + taxes and fees = $71.62 . In this zone, I've stayed previously (all on Priceline bids) at the Courtyard by Marriott, the Residence Inn, and the Hilton Garden Inn. After winning the bid, I called the hotel to request a king non-smoking and informed them that I would have some packages arriving for me. I was told that I was already in the requested room type and also the packages would be no problem.

I arrived at the hotel very late - almost 11:00pm and got lost trying to find it. NE Ray Circle is the tiniest of short streets off Cornell Road. It was impossible to see in the dark and I kept heading westbound until I hit the Hillsboro airport, at which point I knew I went too far! I called the hotel and they gave me directions. The landmark to look out for is the medical/dental building on the corner of NE Ray Circle and Cornell Rd.

The hotel is situated at the end of NE Ray Circle and is quiet. There was free gated underground parking with an elevator that went straight to the rooms. Upon check-in, there was no mention of Priceline. I was assigned room 315 which unfortunately was right in front of the elevators and ice machines. This was a big problem in the morning as I could hear "ding" repeatedly starting at 6:30am, plus people talking while waiting for the elevators!

However, I did have 9 packages already in the room waiting for me! I thought that it was nice that the packages were pre-delivered to the room. Fortuntately, the room itself was spacious, although it oddly had only one end table. There was free wireless and wired Internet access, as well as a coffee maker, iron, and ironing board. The bed was comfortable but unfortunately did not have nice down comforters but rather traditional bedding.

The washroom looked like it had been renovated recently. Toiletries included conditioning shampoo and mouthwash. The Sunbeam hair dryer had adequate power. The showerhead had good water pressure.

In the morning, the lobby had an expanded continental breakfast which included cold hard-boiled eggs and waffles. This was not nearly as nice as the breakfast offered by the Residence Inn nearby but at least there is something.

The lobby also had a whirlpool and a tiny exercise room with one treadmill (did not look carefully, though). Also in the lobby was a business center with fax, one computer with printer (which could only feed one sheet at a a time), and a copier that would jam after making 2 copies.

All in all, I would rate the 4 hotels in Hillsboro that I have stayed at in the following order (best to worst):

Residence Inn* > Hilton Garden Inn > Wingate Inn > Courtyard by Marriott

* This is based not on my own experience but more of a general overview (I had a very bad experience at the Residence Inn).

Nonetheless, suffice it to say that I would not hesitate to stay again at the Wingate Inn in Hillsboro, although it seems to come up rarely in this zone because of its higher price. When I checked out, I got a receipt noting that Priceline had paid $61.03 for the room ($56.50 + taxes), so I guess they made $10.49.
