gaeri Posted August 21, 2012 Report Posted August 21, 2012 Hello,This will be my first time bidding on priceline and I'm not sure what my strategy should be.I am looking for a room for 2 people in:Copenhagen, Denmark. The dates are 09/10 - 09/12Aarhus, Denmark, 09/13 and 09/14I would like a 4* hotel but might consider 3* if the prices are too high. What would be an acceptable initial bidding? Any tips would be much appreciated. If I understand correctly, with hotwire there is no bidding involved, just "secret name" options and you accept the price or not, correct?I will use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links provided on the site and will inform of my bidding success. Thanks! And I just realised I posted this in the wrong forum. Can it be moved? My apologies!!
thereuare Posted August 22, 2012 Report Posted August 22, 2012 Welcome to BetterBidding!I am looking for a room for 2 people in:Copenhagen, Denmark. What would be an acceptable initial bidding? Any tips would be much appreciated. How high are you willing to bid for a 4* before switching to a 3* property? Using BiddingHelper.com and/or MAPS and HOTELS.com what is the best rate you're able to find at an acceptable 4* hotel? If I understand correctly, with hotwire there is no bidding involved, just "secret name" options and you accept the price or not, correct?Correct.I will use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links provided on the site and will inform of my bidding success.THANKS! :) Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
gaeri Posted August 22, 2012 Author Report Posted August 22, 2012 Hi,Thanks for your reply theraure.I will open a new topic for Arhus.I was planning on spending up to $150/night with taxes included. Using the BiddingHelper.com link I have seen hotels on hotwire for $152 and on hotels.com for $153. I have seen on older threads winning bids for around $90-110 but this was a while ago so don't know if those prices will still be good. I am wondering if starting at $90 is too lowThanks for your help!
thereuare Posted August 23, 2012 Report Posted August 23, 2012 Your $150 all-in rate is equivalent to about a $120/nite bid, which for these dates i'm doubtful will be enough for a 4*. However, we haven't seen that much bidding in this area so it's certainly worthwhile to give a try. Unfortunately there are no re-bid zones available when bidding in Copenhagen, so i would simply start at $90 and increase $5 per bid every 24 hours. This will get you to your maximum bid in less than one week and still time to try other options (such as 3* if you want to lower your star rating)Any questions feel free to ask. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes. gaeri Posted August 23, 2012 Author Report Posted August 23, 2012 Thanks for the strategy!Started my bidding at $90 and was rejected but will let you know my winning bid.In the meantime, I will look for a reservation at a hotel with no cancellation fees.
thereuare Posted August 24, 2012 Report Posted August 24, 2012 You can use our MAPS and HOTELS.com and/or BiddingHelper.com to assist in your backup reservation... but not all rates shown are refundable so you'll need to confirm the cancellation policy during the check-out process.Keep us updated on your progress and let us know if we can be of help along the way. gaeri Posted October 8, 2012 Author Report Posted October 8, 2012 Hi, I just wanted to report back with my results. I kept bidding with $5 increases as suggested. I went up to a $140 bid with no success. I opted in the end for a private room for 2 with en suite bathroom in a hostel that had very good reviews. The cost for the 3 nights was $409 all taxes inclusive. The hostel was very centrally located and was spotless so all good in the end. Thanks for the bidding advice, even if it didn't work this time.
