allstar13 Posted August 16, 2012 Report Posted August 16, 2012 Hello,A friend and I are planning to attend a wedding in San Francisco. Our stay will be 10/11-10/15. Our current hotel budget is anywhere from 0-$150. However, if we could get a 4* or nice 3* for about a $100 that would be prefect. Any bidding strategies and suggestions anyone can give me for the best areas/hotels on Priceline would be greatly appreciated.I have already reviewed this Priceline San Francisco post but it's over a year old.So far my strategy is to begin in the financial district, and rebid by adding additional areas that do not contain 4* properties. Can anyone suggest at what price I should begin bidding? And by what amount I should increase my bids? I have not seen anyone post recent data about mid October. In reviews I've seen people claiming to pay $65-89 a night, especially in the Union Square Area. Here are the areas containing 4* properties I may be interested in:2. The Financial District9. Soma-Muscone Center12. Union Square East13. Union Square WestIn addition, these areas also contain 4* properties:8. SFO International Airport10. San MateoAs a backup, the Hyatt Regency is $211 a night on Lastminutetravel.comThank you for your help!
thereuare Posted August 16, 2012 Report Posted August 16, 2012 Welcome to BetterBidding! At the moment i think your $150 budget may be tough for these dates. However, to begin and give it a try, are you looking to only bid the Financial District up to your limit OR are you interested in the least expensive hotel in any of the acceptable (if you've decided these are all acceptable) zones:The Financial DistrictSoma-Muscone CenterUnion Square EastUnion Square WestDid you want to start at the 4* level and try up to your limit or the least expensive 3*?Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Let us know the above and we'll take it from there. allstar13 Posted August 16, 2012 Author Report Posted August 16, 2012 I'm interested in the least expensive 4 star hotel in any of these zones, though I prefer the finanial district as my 1st choice. I'm also interested in Fisherman's Wharf, though I'm not sure which if any of the 3 or 3.5* hotels are good in that area. They also look as expensive or more expensive than the 4* hotels in other parts of town.So I guess it's a combination for me. I will probably start with one area and rebid upto 7 times. If this is unsuccessful, I'm going to exit the browser and retry a new zone.
thereuare Posted August 17, 2012 Report Posted August 17, 2012 I'm interested in the least expensive 4 star hotel in any of these zones...I will probably start with one area and rebid upto 7 times. If this is unsuccessful, I'm going to exit the browser and retry a new zone. This isn't how you would want to bid if indeed your goal is the least expensive 4* in any of the zones you've listed, as it leaves the possibility for an overbid in the zone(s) you try later in the bidding cycle (although not likely too much of an issue in this particular situation since, as noted, at current prices i think $150 is very likely to fall short. This would be a better approach, using your SEVEN re-bid zones at the 4* level. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.Select 4* Financial District, SOMA, USE...Bid $85, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $90, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $95, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $100, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $105, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $110, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* USW...Bid $85, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $90, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $95, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $100, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $105, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $110, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* Financial District, SOMA, USE, USW...Bid $115, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $135, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $140, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $145, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $150Any questions feel free to ask. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes. Gallus50 Posted October 4, 2012 Report Posted October 4, 2012 September and October are almost always tough in the SF bay area. The weather is actually better than the summer, for the most part. Sorry.
