harvey07 Posted August 16, 2012 Report Posted August 16, 2012 I would be grateful for a bidding strategy for 1 nights accommodation for 2 adults in Mid Town West/Empire State Building/Hells Kitchen/Mid Town East for 15 December. My budget would be $155. Would prefer 3 star or above if possible. We are catching a Cruise from Manhattan Terminal on the 16th want a short cab ride to the terminal and believe these bidding zones make sense? If I'm mistaken please feel free to correct me.
thereuare Posted August 16, 2012 Report Posted August 16, 2012 Welcome to BetterBidding! Are you willing to pay more for a 4* vs. a 3.5* vs. a 3*... OR is your goal the least expensive 3* or better for this trip?Note that when bidding 3.5* and under in the MTE zone some hotels can be up to a 15 minute walk to the subway... is this acceptable? Also, will you have time to explore the city at all or do you get in late and this is just a place to sleep before embarkation?Let us know the above and we'll advise accordingly. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. harvey07 Posted August 16, 2012 Author Report Posted August 16, 2012 We should have afternoon and evening free on day before cruise to do some exploring. If we were able to secure a 3.5* for our budget we would be happy. A 4* would be a bonus. I'm wary of 3* hotels but wouldn't have any problems with staying at a Hampton Inn. I have removed MTE but think the following zones should work. I have added a few more zones including Time Square. Would prefer to avoid Hudson Hotel. Mid Town WestEmpire State Building/Hells KitchenTimes SquareMid Town CentralChelseaMadison Square GardenCentral Park SouthMy budget would be $155. What would you advise to proceed with bidding?
harvey07 Posted August 16, 2012 Author Report Posted August 16, 2012 Trying to id 3* ESB with following amenities with 500+ TA reviews and 75% Hotwire reviews. Could it be the Bedford Hotel? Not sure if I would like this. Mixed bag of reviews.General facilitiesRestaurant(s)Property offers at least one restaurant on the premises; hours and days of operation may vary.High-Speed Internet AccessGuestrooms are equipped with high-speed Internet access; an extra charge may apply.
thereuare Posted August 17, 2012 Report Posted August 17, 2012 Since you've now also included CPS:At the 4* leve there are no know issues with hotels in this zone, but at 3.5* and below CPS has the Hudson Hotel, which while well located, has notoriously small rooms (~140 sq. ft.).. is this acceptable?Let us know the above and we'll advise accordingly. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. thereuare Posted August 17, 2012 Report Posted August 17, 2012 What are the dates of this stay? The Bedford hotel would be my best guess for this one. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Let us know how it goes or if we can be of further help. harvey07 Posted August 17, 2012 Author Report Posted August 17, 2012 I forgot about Hudson Hotel being included in CPS. Would be happy with hotel with the other named zones but will exclude CPS. Awaiting your bidding advice.
thereuare Posted August 17, 2012 Report Posted August 17, 2012 To confirm/recap...You want to start by trying for a 3.5* hotel, up to a $155 bid price, in any of the following zones:Mid Town WestEmpire State BuildingHells KitchenTimes SquareMid Town CentralChelseaMadison Square GardenAssuming this is correct... when bidding 3.5* in NYC you have SIX re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.Select 3.5* MTW, ESB, HK, MTC, Chelsea, MSG...Bid $110, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $115, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $135, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $138, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3.5* TS...Bid $110, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $115, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $135, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $138, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3.5* MTW, ESB, HK, TS, MTC, Chelsea, MSG...Bid $140, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $143, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $145, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $148, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $150, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $153, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $155Any questions feel free to ask. harvey07 Posted August 18, 2012 Author Report Posted August 18, 2012 Thanks for your bidding assistance. Bids were rejected for first 2 batches of bids and after using link to re-access for third batch of bids starting off at $140 with MTW I got the `We were not able to process this request since our records indicate you have already made a request for this same trip. Your credit card has not been charged' message so do I wait another 24 hrs and then start off with the 3rd batch starting off with $140 MTW etc? Can't understand how I was able to re access PRICELINE link after the first batch of bids without any problems. I also noticed that I had MTC (Mid Town Central) as a bidding zone which I realise now isn't listed on Priceline?
thereuare Posted August 18, 2012 Report Posted August 18, 2012 When you bid the first set of bids did you not include TS in the bidding? When you placed the second set of bids did you ONLY include the TS zone and not any of the other acceptable zones? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. harvey07 Posted August 18, 2012 Author Report Posted August 18, 2012 In the 1st set of bids I didn't include TS. In the second set of bids I started off with TS bidding $115, MTW $120, ESB $125, HK $130, Chelsea $135, MSG $138. All were rejected and then used link to re-access Priceline. This is when I couldn't proceed any further. The Mela Hotel, TS zone is available for $234 including taxes?
harvey07 Posted August 19, 2012 Author Report Posted August 19, 2012 Having reviewed Priceline hotel list for the zones I've been bidding decided to include 3* hotels in selected zones and tried to bid again in 24 hrs up to $155 and was unsuccessful again. I have found the Mela Hotel (TS) available from another website for $234 including taxes which I'm tempted to book.
harvey07 Posted August 19, 2012 Author Report Posted August 19, 2012 Booked the Mela Hotel (TS) for $234 including taxes from another website. Thanks for your assistance with bidding. If going on any more trips will be sure to try Priceline again.
thereuare Posted August 19, 2012 Report Posted August 19, 2012 Glad you found something that works well for your plans. However, i'm surprised you didn't bid higher before taking a $234 hotel direct... lots of room for an acceptance between the $155 you last bid and the $234 you booked direct. Thanks for closing this thread and enjoy your time in NYC. harvey07 Posted August 23, 2012 Author Report Posted August 23, 2012 In the end found a good rate for the Mela Hotel and took that. Thanks for your help
