yojam Posted August 16, 2012 Report Posted August 16, 2012 Hi, I've haven't seen any successful bid for new year's eve dates. We'll be in NY from Christmas to New Year. What's your suggestion? We started with u$d 120 for 3* in most of Manhattan zones. What do you suggest? Should we split our hotel nights in order to avoid the 12-31-2012 night? (I'm seeing that most of hotels define +100% rates on that specific night).Thanks.
AaronJB Posted August 16, 2012 Report Posted August 16, 2012 Welcome to Betterbidding. :)This is a difficult period due to the 12/31 night, which is one of the worst nights of the year. 12/24 to around 12/28-29 is not bad, but around 12/29-1/1 is definitely considerably busier. What would be your desired budget per night for this stay, and which zones would be of interest?Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
yojam Posted August 16, 2012 Author Report Posted August 16, 2012 That was what I though. Regarding budget, it would be nice to get ~$150 per night, we don't mind if it's a 2* hotel (location over quality). Regarding zones, as close as possible to Times Square: Times Square/Theater, Midtown West/East, Chelsea, Hell's Kitchen, Central Park South, Empire State Area, MSG, etc.It would be nice to avoid switching hotels during those days but if someone knows that it would be easier and cheaper (20-30% less), then it's not a big issue. Thanks,Jose
thereuare Posted August 16, 2012 Report Posted August 16, 2012 Regarding zones, as close as possible to Times Square: Times Square/Theater, Midtown West/East, Chelsea, Hell's Kitchen, Central Park South, Empire State Area, MSG, etc.If there are other than what you've posted above, please provide the complete list of amenities that you're willing to accept (ie- not 'etc.')The idea of SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID would be not only save money but also upgrade the quality/location of your hotel. For instance, HOTWIRE has a 2.5* hotel for 12/29-1/1 in the CPW zone for $148/nite... if you took this for the last 2 nites of your stay, and booked something different for the first 6 nites, you could likely get a 4* hotel within your budget for the first leg of your stay. You could likely get the same 2.5* CPW property for the entire length of your stay for about the same amount, but you'd be 'overpaying' for that star level for the first 5 nites since i think you can get a much higher rated property for about the same amount.Let us know your thoughts and how you'd like to proceed and we'll advise accordingly. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. yojam Posted August 16, 2012 Author Report Posted August 16, 2012 Sorry for the etc, it's going to be our first time in NY. We think it'd be nice to find something in the following areas (ordered by preference): Midtown West/East, Central Park South, Times Square/Theater, Chelsea, Hell's Kitchen, etc, Upper West Side, Upper East Side , Empire State Area, MSG.It would be great to find a 3* hotel at Midtown for ~$120 for the first leg and then a ~$150 2.5* hotel for 12/29-1/1 in a different (cheaper?) location. Our aprox budget for 8 nights is around $1250.Thanks
thereuare Posted August 17, 2012 Report Posted August 17, 2012 (ordered by preference): Midtown West/East, Central Park South, Times Square/Theater, Chelsea, Hell's Kitchen, etc, Upper West Side, Upper East Side , Empire State Area, MSG.Are you willing to pay more to be in your first choice of zone vs. second choice of zone vs. third choice, etc, etc... or is your goal the least expensive 3* or better for this first leg of your stay? Also, if you're only looking at midtown for this part of your stay please list the midtown zones you're willing to accept (since some of the zones above are outside what most would define as 'midtown')Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.
