Hi,

I am looking to stay in Hong Kong from Oct 11 - 16, 2012 at either JWM or Conrad. My maximum bid is $200.

Do you think this is reasonable? Would you be so kind as to suggest a bidding strategy?

Thank you in advance.

If you haven't yet, please start by reading your messages.

You can't bid on a specific hotel when using PRICELINE, you have to be able to accept any hotel in the zone at the star level (or higher) that you choose. With HOTWIRE you can often take an educated guess as to what is being offered based upon the amenities associated with the property, but it's still a 'best guess' and no guarantees you will receive the hotel you're hoping for. As well, HOTWIRE only shows one hotel at each star level per zone, so there is a chance the hotel you're hoping for isn't the one which is offered for your particular dates.

Are you willing to accept any 5* hotel in the zone OR only the two properties you've mentioned above?

Let us know how you'd like to proceed and we'll advise accordingly.

Oh sorry, I should have been more clear. I am thinking of using priceline to bid for a 5 star hotel in West Hong Kong Island. I may be wrong, but based on the hotel list, the only 5 star hotels in that area that I thought I could win are JWMarriot and Conrad. If I am incorrect, please advise. With that said, could you please advise me on a bidding strategy?

Thank you

A different hotel is always a possibility. The Hotel LIst is only those hotels members have reported. New hotels can be built, 4.5* hotels can be re-rated to 5*s, no member has yet received and reported the hotel, .... ?? .

When you bid, you have to be willing to accept any hotel within the mapped area at or above the star level you bid.

PS - I have to admit, when I've gotten a hotel not yet on the list, I always enjoy getting to be the first to report it.

Rates look fairly high and inventory somewhat slim, but to give it a try:

When bidding 5* in Hong Kong you have FIVE re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.

(NOTE: 're-bid zone1' is not the same as priceline's Zone1, 're-bid zone2' is not the same as priceline's Zone2, etc, etc)
