Priceline Hotel: 4* Hotel on the Strip, 8/28-8/30 (2 Rooms)

I'm going to Vegas from 8/28-8/30 (a Sunday and Monday night stay), and figured this might be the time to get a 4* hotel. I usually stay at the Excalibur, so clearly my standards aren't that high. The X is $50/night on those days, which I'd happily pay, but I was wondering if I had a chance at any of the 4* hotels for around $65/night. The NY NY and MGM Grand are both $100/night if booked directly. On Hotwire, the 3.5* and 4* hotels are in the range of $91-107/night. I've read the caveats about pricelining a "strip" hotel, I'm willing to take the risks if the price is right.

So, what do you think are my chance of succeeding in getting the rooms for $65/night? And should I be looking elsewhere?

Also, I noticed that, since I started pricing hotels directly about two weeks ago, the prices have gone down at the X, MGM and NYNY by $10/night (at all three, oddly). Do you think they'll go down any further if I wait it out a little longer?

One other question - the Stratosphere would cost me $35/night (direct booking). I've never stayed there, does anybody know if it's a seedy place?

Thanks for the info. I tried pricelining a 4* in the "strip vicinity" zone for $50, then added a zone and went up to $55. No luck. I was all set to keep going, but when a travelling companion suggested that we could spend the extra dough on blackjack instead of a hotel room, I came to my senses and booked the Excalibur.

Thanks again for the expertise and the info on the Strat. I'll be avoiding that place...
