DietDrPepper Posted August 14, 2012 Report Posted August 14, 2012 Hello,I intend to use the PRICELINE link from this site. Just wondering before I do if I could get some help regarding the amount I should bid if my target is 5* North Las Vegas (Venetian/Palazzo/Wynn) for this upcoming weekend 8/17/12 to 8/19/12. In addition, would it be a problem to get two queen beds instead of a king bed? Lastly, could someone help me with rebidding zones?I understand that you can't know how much it'd cost to win a hotel, but I figure can't hurt to ask. My maximum bid would be about $150-160Thank you
AaronJB Posted August 14, 2012 Report Posted August 14, 2012 Welcome to Betterbidding. How many people are in your party? If you need two beds, HOTWIRE is a better bet, given that PRICELINE only guarantees 1 bed/double occupancy, and there have been reports of Vegas properties either not offering two beds or charging upgrade fees for rooms with two beds. Please read the re-bidding thread for discussion of re-bidding, then confirm the zones with the board before bidding - do check zones each time you bid as re-bid zones can change.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
DietDrPepper Posted August 14, 2012 Author Report Posted August 14, 2012 Thank you for your response. There will be four people in my party. Also, thank you for referencing me to the re-bidding thread. I did take a look, just wanted to be super careful since I see other posters winning "resort" instead of hotels they sought. In addition, any idea of how much I should bid or range to bid? Thank you again.
Romelle Posted August 15, 2012 Report Posted August 15, 2012 First, when bidding 5*, you are safe from erroneously getting a "resort". Resorts are considered essentially 4.5*s, so you can't get up-graded to one. At the moment, there are 11 free rebid zones at the 5* level. However it is a very good idea to recheck before each bidding session. If however, you start bidding 4*, the list is different. Then you have to not use zones with 5* and/or Resort bidding available. And that Resort level is clear at the bottom of the star list.If you are still unsure about those free rebid zones, post your list back here and somebody will double check it for you.palaRegarding how much to bid or a range, there are some clues available: On the Priceline and Hotwire Calendar of Wins (under Tools up above) a member reported a successful PRICELINE 5* bid for your dates at $155. Things change, but that might give you the general range. If you go to the Calendar, you can find out how recently that bid was successful, and perhaps some other information. The information is less useful if the bid was done a long time ago.On the retail side of PRICELINE the low North Strip 5* is $244 for your dates. If you are fortunate enough to get a 50% discount you might just score within your budget. If..The rack rates for the hotels are really high for your weekend. With the 11 free rebids, you can figure out a starting point and increments that end up at the maximum your budget will allow. Using your suggested $160 top, with $4 increments you can go from $127 to $160. With $2 increments you can go from $138 to $160 (this is probably the more realistic.) And if it doesn't work, you can rethink things and take another run tomorrow. Romelle
thereuare Posted August 15, 2012 Report Posted August 15, 2012 Many of the 5* properties in Vegas now consider a 'standard' room to only have one bed and rooms with two beds are considered an upgrade, and even cost more than a one bedded room when booking directly on the hotel's own website... if you are able to request a room with two beds, there may be an additional feel involved. Please click each of these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links, then reply to this thread and we'll continue the discussion for your trip above. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. DietDrPepper Posted August 16, 2012 Author Report Posted August 16, 2012 I've re-bid about 9 zones and got rejected at $165. It's starting to push my price range a bit, so might have to start looking into other options. Thank you for the reply -- I'll update with whatever bid, if any, I end up getting.Thank you
