KFrancaRN Posted August 13, 2012 Report Posted August 13, 2012 Hi! I'm new to betterbidding, although I have been lurking for a few days reading posts! I am traveling with a friend to NYC for a show and will be there from 9/21 to 9/23. We will be seeing a show at the Nederlander Theater and wish to stay somewhat close by. This is my first visit to NYC as an adult, so I need something a little "NYC for dummies". We want to do the typical tourist thing, Ground Zero, Statue of Liberty, Central Park, etc. Could you please suggest a strategy for us. I would appreciate it! I am *hoping* to spend no more than $180-$200 a night, but I don't know if this is even reasonable! Again, NYC for Dummies! Thanks!
mtbscott Posted August 14, 2012 Report Posted August 14, 2012 September is an expensive month for New York, but I think your $200 max is probably doable. There is no "central" area to most tourist attractions so the most important thing is just to be near a subway stop, which you can do almost anywhere in Manhattan. I suggest you use the links here and start your bidding at a lower price and gradually include more zones.
thereuare Posted August 15, 2012 Report Posted August 15, 2012 Welcome to BetterBidding! At the 4* level the MTE, MTW, TS, CPS and ESB zones (these are all considered 'midtown') are generally all considered well located and work well for the average user. Downtown is often a little cheaper than midtown but a bit less convenient... you'll likely be near a subway stop but it's a 20-25 minute ride to midtown where more of your destinations will likely be, but for the right price it's certainly do-able. My suggestion would be to try midtown zones first, then if rejected consider the option of adding Downtown. As far as your planning goes... keep in mind that if you intend to go to the Statue of Liberty it's usually an all day affair, i wouldn't recommend it on a short weekend city trip as it takes up too much time, unless you're a history buff and it would be the highlight of your trip. Yes, do go to Battery Park or some other part of the city to view it... but i wouldn't make the trip to Liberty Island.Let us know your thoughts on the zones and we'll advise accordingly. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.
