snyder2338 Posted August 13, 2012 Report Posted August 13, 2012 Hoping to win a bid on the Grand Hyatt for 2 nights on 9/28-30 for two double rooms (5 people). We'd be happy with anything under $300 but hoping closer to $200. Any suggestions on how to bid for this hotel? Or to get something comparable. Willing to stay in other areas as well. Is it too early to bid to get a good deal?
AaronJB Posted August 13, 2012 Report Posted August 13, 2012 Welcome to Betterbidding. There is no way to bid on a particular property. If you bid for a 4* in MTE (for example), you have to be willing to accept any of the 4*'s in that zone. Do you need two beds in each room? If so, I'd rather recommend HOTWIRE, as PRICELINE only guarantees one bed/double occupancy and nowhere in the US is that probably more true than in New York City. Which other zones would be acceptable? It is certainly not too early to bid for end of September - unfortunately, this period (like much of the rest of the Fall and early Winter) is busy/expensive. For Midtown, you won't have to go to the $300 level for a 4*, but my guess is that you're likely going to have to go over $200 and towards the mid-$200's.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
snyder2338 Posted August 13, 2012 Author Report Posted August 13, 2012 Thanks for the response. Open to 4* in TS/Meatpacking/Soho/Gramercy as well. Thanks for the Hotwire tip. I've used PL before and called for a double but know its not guaranteed. We could get two singles as long as we could get a cot for that 5th person. Do NYC hotels allow that? Probably depends on the hotel. Would love the W too! Thanks for your help!
AaronJB Posted August 13, 2012 Report Posted August 13, 2012 There is no way to know if the hotel will offer/be able to offer a rollaway - some rooms in NYC are not large enough to really fit a rollaway. More than one bed in general in NYC using PRICELINE is definitely a problem - some hotels have even said no when users have offered to pay additional to upgrade. Please confirm the exact PRICELINE zones that you would be willing to accept - for example, the Soho area is part of the Soho-Tribeca zone. The list of zones and the hotels that have been reported to the board can be found here: Priceline Hotel List.Additionally, if you are looking for a hotel or certain "type" of hotel, HOTWIRE is a better bet, given the ability to make an educated guess as to which hotels are showing. When bidding on PRICELINE, there's at least several (if not more) 4*'s in many zones and one has to be willing to accept any of the possibilities.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
